It was much more a body of work award than it is now, and he had won the previous year.

That just shows you what kind of a coach Woody was. He didn't give a damn about 2nd Archie's Heisman.

Yeah, great Ohio State team. They basically gave the ball to Johnson in the redzone. They beat UCLA in the coliseum in OOC play very handily, the lost to them in the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State ran the ball about 700 times in 1975, and threw it 120. Just insane that they had 2 rushers over 1000 yards and over 4.5 yards a carry.

Those stats may not look that impressive on the surface, but 5.5 yards a carry is very when you throw 10 times a game. He was also a consensus all American that year, so hr was doing something right.

its not like many teams were passing it a ton then. that was option era football. Heisman voting back then was spotty at best. For instance, Texas A&M RB Bubba Bean was on a 10-1 regular season team that was #2 late into the year before falling to Arkansas in their final game. He had 1,024 yards, 8 TDs and 6.4 yards a carry on a team that threw the ball just 99 times that year. He didn't even finish in the top 10 of the Heisman voting which is a kind of a joke considering an OU player with lesser stats made it.

Ohio State was running Power I fwiw. Very interesting that y'all played USC in 75. Yall are 0-3 all time vs them.

Lee Roy Selmon had a decent case as a DL that year. He had 132 tackles and 10 sacks. He won the Outland and Lombardi trophies and was the first pick in the next draft.

Ricky Bell was robbed. Luckily voters got over their "you're still the best if you win it and then come back no matter what." Otherwise Tebow and Leinart might have two.

Ricky Bell was a stud, I think he went to the Bucs. This was when USC was pumping out world class backs every year it seemed.

He had a 48% completion percentage. Just horrific.
