Top Prospects leaving Louisiana

Am I the only one that couldnt care less about 1 or 2 top prospects going OOS?

We all know that LSU is one of the elite programs in the country. LSU has landed top recruits from Ohio recently, cherry picked from California, South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas. In '14 they'll have a slew of Texas kids coming in.

Now, I know that LSU has to recruit Louisiana and they look to land every D-I prospect in the state because La. generates solid prospects. But with all these other elite OOS of state prospects wanting to go to LSU, why is it such an outrage when LSU doesn't land 1-2 home prospects? Sure, they're leaving the state, but if they're being replaced with talent just as good, if not equal talent, or better.......what's the problem?

Everyone is so worried about this mythical "fence" and have been worried that other schools can come in and get what they want.....even of that's the case, I still don't see a decline in talent anywhere on the LSU roster to justify an outrage/panic.

The only guy that comes to mind that left the state I wish we had was Frank Alexander who went to Oklahoma...after that there has not been anyone who made me think "Wow we effed up on that one."

Agreed. It's sad how many people overreact to something so minor. If all the great players were leaving the state is one thing but it's really only a couple every year. big deal.

The only people that do this either don't follow recruiting, or they are trolling.

It bugs me when we lose a top guy. Wish they would all stay and rep LA.

It bugs you, but they're replaced by a capable prospect. Is it just because you want them to rep the state?

As long as they stay out of the SECw, I don't mind if they go elsewhere.

re: Top Prospects leaving Louisiana

3 of the top 6 guys from Alabama last year went to FSU. 3 of the top 4 this year are currently not committed to Bama and the #1 guy may wind up at Ga, I doubt Buccwild and the peeps at BOL are crying about it

Seriously we've got 8 of the top 10-12 guys from La committed and as you mentioned some exciting prospects from OOS. 2 of the most vocal supporters of LSU and faces of the team the last few years were Peterson and Montgomery, from Fla and SC. ]

There is no clear cut top guy in state this year (maybe 5 guys in next year's class that would be #1 this year), so losing 1 or 2 from that top 10 is not a big deal.

Again, if he is replaced by a capable prospect, what does it matter? Is it just bragging rights?

It isnt a big deal. Some kids just want to go away. it proves it with the oos kids that have come to LSU. Now you want to get the majority of the talent here and it helps build a nice core. But we will always have to recruit nationally to stay at the top.

No, you're not the only one that doesn't care, this year anyway. I generally don't sweat losing a QB playing LB recruit to any school. If we get him great, if not fine.

He should go where he wants and hope for the best. This is one player and one position that LSU won't feel.

re: Top Prospects leaving Louisiana

FWIW, I didn't start this because of Beckwith. The main battle cry of a lot of these guys that have been spelling doom for the LSU program has been Collins, Devall, Davis, and Lacy (as if LSU were recruiting him hard and he was on top of the wish list). Before that, Robinson and Reed.

Anyone else think Corey Thompson is going to be mediocre? He had probably the same amount of mop up duty/ST playing time as Collins. IF Collins is better, how much better do you feel he'll be than Thompson? Other than star rankings, did much really say that?

How many of you are excited about Danielle Hunter? Capable to replace Devall?

Crying over losing Davis is just laughable, TBH. You know, with that whole locker room N vs. S LSU civil war and all. Oh, and Alexander, Louis, and Jones. All capable, no?

I think I find myself more disappointed at times when an OOS recruit doesn't pick LSU than vice versa.

Defensive backs and WRs are no big deal, they grow on trees in the River Parishes. Its tough when the big linemen leave though because they just arent as plentiful. Greg Williams comes to mind.

I agree with what you're saying but it still sucks to lose top in state talent. I understand kids wanting to leave for uscw (chicks and scenery) but going to bama etc I just don't so it stings a bit. I know I know they're replaced with equal talent. Hard to say if its equal or not until they play. Imean texas has been getting five star kids from texas for years and they haven't panned out so well. Maybe texas talent is overrated? Could be. I would just rather our louisiana boys.

You are assuming that the people that bitch and moan about this follow recruiting. In 99.9% of the cases, it is some jacklegg using it as an excuse to bash Miles and his staff. Typically, some variance of "Saban would never allow that..." is sprinkled in somewhere.

re: Top Prospects leaving Louisiana

Rightly or wrongly, I view it as a reflection on the program. In my idealized view of the world, the best players from Louisiana should feel lucky to get an offer from LSU. If they get it, they stay because why would you turn down an offer to represent your state as a player for one of the finest programs in the country? Players from the rest of the country want to play here because they don't have the luxury of home-grown program that is a good as LSU's, so we should be able to pick off a few of those too.

That's just the way I want to think about it, and I think it's the way that many fans think about it. I recognize that it isn't reality, and that the sky doesn't fall if one player leaves. But still, rejection hurts. And part of what's fun about being a fan is chasing this ideal of excellence, that isn't really attainable.

re: Top Prospects leaving Louisiana

it depends on who it is.

if you lose a top shelf LT like Cameron Robinson to WM, then I'll melt down, solely bc of the position and how much of a premium it is. Losing them to Bama would be pretty harsh considering that 1. they are a fierce rival, and 2. you play against this guy every single year.

Skilled positions guys, we can withstand some hits, but not too many, IMO. Not sure if we can risk the alienation of in-state talent for OOS anymore, especially with a power on each side fighting to cut into the LSU base. Guys like Fournette, Quinn, Noil, etc...those guys need to stay in state, IMO.

We say it all the time, these in-state classes will play for championships at LSU.

2011 is/was that way, and 2014 is that kind of class, IMO.

In a year where your state is projected to have so many homerun hitters (all positions across the board), you don't want to miss out on many of those.
