No, not the place... the album. Absolutely fantastic. Some few things are as good but there is nothing better.

there's a good "classic albums" doc on this.

pretty sure it's on netflix. they do alot of great albums. they're all worth a watch.

Graceland is an amazing album. Paul Simon is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.

Great album. My only problem with it is that it totally overshadows the remarkably underrated Hearts and Bones album from a few years prior. But Simon really kills it here, even if we can sort of blame him for the brief popularity of "world music".
I do enjoy how much Los Lobos hates him over this album.

I love both of them and both put on a great live show... Now I gotta pick a side...

I was coming in to post the Los Lobos deal too. Paul is a first class dick for not giving them credit on that album.

I preferred Rhythm of the Saints but everything Simon is great.

I don't know. They played as session musicians and got paid the session rate. Simon recorded the entire album this way -- just bringing in musicians and jamming. Los Lobos admits they were uncomfortable with this process of songwriting, and played music that had been working on previously. Simon claims they never told him it was one of their works until after Graceland was a successful album.
And Los Lobos claiming they were the more popular band at the time is laughable. Hearts and Bones was a commercial disappointment, but it still was a top 40 album. One Trick Pony charted top 10. I think they played a lick in a Paul Simon session they wanted to reserve for themselves, and only got upset after the album sold a billion copies. No one doubts Simon wrote the lyrics, and the big part of Myth of the Fingerprints is the lyrics. Simon tells a pretty funny story.
I don't think Los Lobos' claim is without merit, but I also don't think its this crime against music they try and claim. You signed up as session players for someone else's album, you played the lick and din't stop him from using it, and didn't try to cash in until after he sold a bunch of copies. I don't feel like they are entirely in the right here. Simon did give credit to many players throughout the album, so its clear he felt Los Lobos didn't contribute like some other musicians. And since they make it sound like they were in the the studio for two days, Simon is right.

I just find it hard to believe that Los Lobos could ever produce something as great as The Myth of Fingerprints... what's in their repertoire that would indicate such?

Now that I know it the music sounds very Los Lobo-ish at its basic level... I dont doubt the lyrics maybe Paul's, as well as the arrangement..
I tend to believe their account off of that article, they get nothing out of it but to call him a dick...
If it someones song you recognize them, pretty simple..

Los Lobos are the most overlooked band in America. Colossal Head and Kiko are two of the greatest albums ever. Great band that is still on the road and very relevant.

Definitely one our best Rock n Roll bands... Kiko kinda broke the patter on their straight ahead sound... All amazing musicians (which doesnt always work in rock, for me)...

I watched it on Netflix streaming over Thanksgiving weekend. I watched that one and the Marley Catch a Fire one. Both pretty good.

Yep.
Graceland is one of my "desert island" albums. Every song is superb. Crazy Love Vol. II might be my favorite song on the album.
I saw Paul Simon live in New Orleans last year. Great show.

The greatest thing about Paul Simon is his poetic storytelling...
"And the moon rose over an open field" is my favorite moment in all of music. Gives me chills.

I finally gave Graceland a listen to last week. Very good album. Prolly listen again today.
America is certainly one of his top 3 works.
My personal favorite of his is "Kathy's Song"
