2 things: I've worked in plenty of manual labor/ factory situations/ working with inherently dangerous stuff coming up that people would do similar stuff to this (have a beer at break) and not once did we have a problem with it(granted i've seen people take it overboard and get sent home for night/day). It wasn't all the time but it happened fairly frequently. second, I have a serious problem with someone stalking workers and harassing them in their private life. If this had had been drinking and they were obviously fricked up when they got back, send them home (if it happens on multiple occasions, fire them).

I used to run a logistics office and warehouse. If anyone ever drank on the job, at break, or came to work intoxicated they would be fired and rightfully so. Its a ridiculous liability and this notion they have some sort of right to drink a little is absurd.

Dude, you seem to be going overboard here. Most companies have a zero tolerance policy. Alcohol and machinery at work don't mix, I understand why someone may report them.

Liberal logic: ban soda, approve beer at work

Yea i guess i am. Not pro-union, guess I just don't like how this happened. In this circumstance i guess, the ends justified the means. Drinking is obviously not a positive thing for any profession especially one with a dangerous environment

I am union neutral, but totally understand why a company that manufactures vehicles would want someone off the assembly line who is drinking. I also understand why coworkers may not feel safe working around that person and why someone may report it.

I toured the Kia plant in West Point, GA not too long ago and one of the gentlemen there was very clear about if there were to ever be a hint of unionization that KIA would have no problem getting the frick out of there as fast as possible.

I'd argue we're not doing well at evolving. The fact that we still pump out yearly models of the same vehicle with mostly cosmetic modifications is the problem.

Seriously, you think THAT is GM's biggest problem? This is channel stuffing plain and simple. Don't over think it.

How many iphones have you owned? And where I work we do both monthly random testing (true randoms) and then would base a targeted drug test in reasonable suspicion. If you fail a drug test, you're gone with the quickness.

I've had lunches where lawyers, CPAs drank. When I was in DC, Congressional staff members. In my younger days, home fabrication, bulkmail printing, construction, etc. Ive had a cocktail, beer at lunch plenty of times with white and blue collar professionals.. Shocked that no one on this board has had a beer at lunch then gone back to work.
