I can't remember if it was a thread on here or a conversation I had IRL with someone trying to explain Texas Tech and Lubbock to people who aren't familiar with the Texas dynamic.

I'm from Texas and I don't think anybody here likes Lubbock, expect maybe nostalgic Tech alumni. Even with his connection to the school, there are greener pastures, and it doesn't get much better than Cal and N. Cal. Better program and best place to live in the country. Hell, there might even be less pressure there too.

does this have anything to do with him pimp slapping one of his GA's the other day? sounds like TT is genuinely surprised so i doubt it.

I wonder if Tech told him to find another job. Tech doesn't exactly have the best reputation when it comes to that sort of behavior.

Petrino is right up Tech's alley. They hired Bobby Knight and Billy Gillispie after their BS. Petrino is in the same mold.

None of their hires of eccentric/baggage-having coaches has ended well.

I don't think Tech is gonna have a hard time finding a coach.

It does hurt Colorado badly though.

Most coaches wouldn't mind being in Amarillo for a couple years for $2.5M/year.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that Petrino is either driving there right now or has already been on priceline to get a flight.

Bobby and Pat were a package deal so I'd say it ended pretty poorly as well.

Going to the tourney four times and the Sweet Sixteen once would be considered a success, especially considering he took over a 9-19 team.

Will Bobby Petrino force Tech to make Paul Petrino his successor or something?

There were a lot of people who were PISSED that Leach was fired. I think plenty people there would gladly take another damaged goods coach that's been proven to be successful. They could have a buyout clause like Arky's and they could have some sort of sexual discrimination penalty clause, and they haven't ever really gotten the top talent in Texas anyway.

Will be interesting to see whether they are tired of taking chances or not.

I was stationed at Reese AFB many, many years ago. If you like wind blowing constantly, tumbleweeds, and cotton you'd love Lubbock.

Believe me, Tech fans DGAF about honor, integrity or that sort of thing -- they just want their program to rise to the level of UT and TAMU.

Unless Sonny wants to follow in Spike's footsteps I don't see him leaving Cal. I do wonder if he has signed his contract yet.

Yeah TT had a good start but if Tubbs had another year like this one he was going to get fired. He probably was willing to go anywhere so he can reset the clock and keep getting paid.
