My only guess is he wanted back East somewhere. Certainly not a step up.....Actually a step down considering the conference.

It kind of evens out a little since Cincy went to a BCS bowl a few years ago but I still think Tech is a better job because of the state it's in and the conference. Maybe he got tired competing with Texas, A&M, TCU, and Baylor for recruits. That's the only thing I can think of.
Or he wanted to get back east like you said.

Forgot he went there. I think they would consider Petrino and Kingsbury. Tech doesn't really mind taking chances on controversial coaches and they like high powered offenses... will be interesting to see what they do.

He was desperate to get out of Lubbock.
He had reached out to Kentucky when our HC job was open, but they were headed in a different direction.
