I love John Lennon--his music and his willingness to speak out on issues that at the time required it. When he died I was a freshman at LSU--yes I'm an old fart.
There was a memorial in the Oak Grove behind the union where they played his music for a couple of hours--great memory.

Not easy writing a "mindless pop song" with a unique melody.
Lennon still had many great years of creativity ahead of him. Also missed out on half his life and seeing his kids grow up.

I was coincidentally doing some Blue Star acid that afternoon in Austin, Texas, and had just about come down off it when I heard the news. I was walking on Guadalupe across from U.T. when I overheard people talking about it, so I walked up the Drag to the Hole In The Wall bar and watched the news. Bad day.

I was jr in hs....at That point, Lennon was irrelevant.it was horrible. But Lennon was equivalent to marky mark today.
