The Mekons. Pretty much any of their albums - they're all amazing in one way or another. Memphis, Egypt

Ben Deignan. Came to play in Huntsville one night and I really am surprised he's not on the radio. I even got to photograph his show in the hard rock in atl and they sold out the place. Great band that just gets everyone in a good mood. LINK

sBach I listen to some obscure music, but sBach is about as obscure as they come. It's pretty much a nostalgia trip on old video games, aka my childhood. The musicianship and creativity are fantastic. This is from the gentleman, Spencer Seim, who brought Hella and The Advantage to the world. Track 2 Track 5 Track 7

The Gathering. Anneke van Giersbergen might be the best female singer I've heard in the last fifteen years. She's since left the band and put out a couple of great solo albums. On Most Surfaces Forgotten

Terry Reid "Seed of Memory". One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Period. Was asked to be the lead singer for Led Zeppelin and famously declined to pursue his songwriting freedom. He's a musician's musician.

I've definitely heard of them... but I also listen to Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation. Anneke and Sharon den Adel singing "Somewhere" live ETA: We need a "big in Europe" thread.

Hmmm... Here's one that may be off of everyone's radar... Cara Faye Charnow parted ways with Shiny Toy Guns a few years ago and now sings for a band called Versant. Versant - "Out of Touch"

Twilight Singers -- Blackberry Belle The album is incredible. Here is my favorite track: Teenage Wristband If any of y'all have heard this, at least make note that this example is way better than the OP's. Laid by James? Who hasn't heard of that? FYI: this band is fronted by Greg Dulli, who also fronts the Afghan Whigs.

Floating Action This band would be so popular but they're very under the radar. The've put out three albums now.
