I never saw any episodes past the cell saga.
I have some serious catching up to do....
I only saw like 2 episodes where Goku reaches SS status. I feel like such a slacker.

Aww dude. You missed out on A LOT. Granted the Buu saga doesn't come close to being as good as Frieza/Cell but it's still damn good.
Get on that ASAP

I know I'm late to this party here, but the Cell and Buu sagas were my favorite Vegeta moments. He just took everything to a whole new level there.

Well, honestly, if I were Goku I would have to think that there aren't that many beings that are more powerful than a SSJ1. And Goku himself is basically a god. But even at SSJ1 if the guy is stronger than him, Goku still can't be hurt unless he is stronger than a SSJ3. Also, Goku isn't the only one that can hide his energy.
As to not going to SSJ3 right away, more than likely to save energy.....and to make 1 episode turn into 3 or 4.

Goku, much like vegeta, loves a challenge.
Going straight to ssj3 would not be pushing his own limits.

Is there an over/under on how Goku beats the villain in the new movie? I've watched several of the movies over the past few weeks and Goku always ends it with some form of spirit bomb.
It is like the blazing sword from Voltron.

I am trying to think of the times that the Spirit Bomb is used and this is what I got off the top of my head.
Series:
Goku/Krillin/Gohan vs Vegeta =failure
Goku vs Frieza =failure
Goku vs Buu =failure at first/success after Mr Satan stepped in
Movies:
Goku vs Doctor in World's Strongest =success
Goku vs Lord Slug =success
Goku vs Turles =failure
Goku vs Turles and Tree of Might =success
My guess for the movie is that Goku takes entirely too long to turn Super Saiyan

Because it would probably feel like a pinch to them. The only person a DD could come close to hurting is/was Nappa.
