Saw this yesterday and almost posted it. Piers is such an elitist douche; I'm glad someone put him in his place.

ETA: I just wish she would have brought up TV, Internet, etc. not being covered under the 1st Amendment, you know, since it was devised will quill pens in mind.

Wasn't the main intention of the 2nd Amendment to allow the populace to arm and protect itself from the government? So, in the event of a hostile takeover attempt by the armed services and the government, the people would be able to rebel and protect themselves?

I don't think the writers of the 2nd Amendment to the constitution had street thugs and criminals in mind when it was written.

If Piers is not the intellectual heir to Larry King (Tomorrow night, Angie Dickinson and Steve Goulet !) than I don't know what he is.

Minute Men were mostly farmers and are a celebrated part of American history. A rag tag bunch of bumpkins army that defeated what was then the most powerful military in the world.

People like Costa never think about those that live in more rural America that don't have a police station a couple of blocks away from their house. They only think about the city life not rural life.

Now, with that said, a thug will kill you before you are able to call the cops to come protect you. Hell, the latest from San Bernadino is that they have to "make cuts to police" so they told the citizens that they are on their own. Lovely idea, your utopia that already has come to fruition in California.

CNN must have hired him for his British accent alone being displayed on air. This is the only thing that gives him a sense of authority/legitimacy to his opinions to most of his audience. The accent proves his intelligence and hearkens to the age difference between Britain and American society, and as such to the veracity of his words of wisdom, or as they should be better known rabbit pellets, little bits of crap that don't seem too offensive on face value.

I get all that. I just think that all of this debate over the 2nd Amendment is rather misguided. It was written to protect us from each other as private citizens, it was written to protect us from a tyrannical government. People like Bob Costas are very narrow-minded, as you say, and it's not just about city vs rural life: we'd all be in deep trouble if it was "us" vs. the US Armed Forces.
