Right on, right on, right on. As I was watching, I said when are we going to be brutally honest. It's not football, it's not football players. It's the thugs and mostly "the black culture" of solving every problem by shooting someone. Hey Costas, I wonder what Drew Bree's is packing tonight or if Peyton Manning has an AK-47 in the trunk of his car right now?

Why? I disagree with his position, but it's not like it negatively impacted his employer.

Look, Costas' comments may have been simplistic and even ill-informed, but some of you are acting he advocated the overthrow of the fricking government. Jesus Christ this is a tempest in a fricking teapot. And I guarantee you that if his comments had been along the lines of "gun control is not the answer . . . let's blame the criminal, not the gun" most of you would either have not noticed or been applauding. Don't be little bitches and lie.

Yeah, so I suppose Bob Costas is complete tool now because he spoke his mind for 3 minutes during halftime of a three and half hour sporting event. Yes. Lol

No shite. Honest to God . . . and I am not flaming . . . I'm mystified at the degree of indignation over such a non-event.

I hear that. How do you feel about jet flyovers during pre-game, out of curiosity?

He didn't speak his mind, he quoted someone else's article. I think it was dumb to politicize that event, but he's entitled to free speech no matter how stupid it may be.

what about the star spangled banner? Or wearing pink uniforms during october? Or tributes to the troops? Are those ok, and why is that form of speech ok, but not about gun control? Oh, and the whole segment is 1:32, and for a good 50 seconds he is bashing on people that need tragedy to put sports into perspective. LINK I don't agree with the comments, but bob costas is a commentator. That is the shite you should expect from commentators. To comment on crap. he is not a reporter! And finally who the frick watches the halftime show?

I doubt many people think that is nearly as stupid as what he said. What you posted above is actually common sense.

I do not care what he had to say. It is grossly overblown. Listening to him last night he made his own point about there being a culture of pro ball players owning guns (lots of guns). I see his point and it is one that some of the NFL guys are trying to address.

I think halftime during a football game which is normally filled with routine fluff interviews anyway is as good a time as any. He spoke for several minutes and gave his personnel opinion. Costas has enough street cred that I think he earned 3 minutes to speak candidly about the subject during the least viewed moment of the broadcast.
When did NBC issue a disclaimer that the opinions were those of Bob Costas and not NBC? Did they give equal time to an opposing point of view? What about the NFL, did the NFL endorse Costas' opinion? The specificaaly claim ownership of the rights to the event. What if Costas had taken three minutes out of the broadcast on Sunday night before the election to endorse Obama or Romney? Would that have been acceptable to you? Why is this any different?

You make it sound like all other networks follow some other standard in which the aforementioned takes place and that NBC is some rogue network playing by their own rules. I also don't think someone giving their opinion on gun control is also the same thing as endorsing a particular political party or candidate. Contrary to popular belief, you can have strong feelings for issues that do not normally fall in line with a particular political party. Seriously, did you actually see it live when he spoke about it? and if you did, were you truthfully offended?
