| Taxing the Rich until they stop paying (Posted on 12/6/12 at 10:18 am)
Liberals, you want the rich to pay for everything. You keep taxing and taxing and taxing them. What happens when they stop paying the taxes, stop producing, and decide to retire? Who then will you get your money from? How do you sustain an economy that is born out of tax the rich, when there is no more rich?

Ask a liberal what he is doing 2 weeks from tomorrow. They cannot tell you because they have not thought that far ahead.

The State will assume the means of production and seize private wealth. Pretty simple.

This is complete and utter nonsense. Raising taxes a couple of points on the top end brackets will absolutely not dissuade people from working to make more money.

So you want to not tax the rich? Because the R's are in favor of taxing them too, fyi. All we are talking about is how much.

That's called "negotiating". If you've been following what's been going on then you saw how the GOP was staunchly against raising taxes on anyone at all (see: Norquist pledge). The GOP wanted spending cuts and the Dems wanted tax increases. In the spirit of working together the GOP has relented on its stance against tax hikes.

This is stupid. People aren't just going to stop earning that kind of money. Look, people that make that kind of money and own businesses have so many ways to reduce their taxes it isn't funny. If I'm being taxed at a rate of 30% or so and a millionaire is being taxed at under 20% how does that make sense? A flat tax would solve that shite.

Oh really? California says hi. LINK
quote:
You may ask, hasn’t California’s population increased from 32 million in 1994 to 37 million in 2010? That’s absolutely correct; the increase is from births and deaths and immigration to California from outside of the US. Unfortunately, a large number of Californian’s who were earning good incomes have decided to enjoy their gold in places other than the Golden State.
Millions flee California because of progressive tax system
quote:
According to one estimate, 254 businesses across a variety of industries moved all or some of their jobs out of state last year.
quote:
California has both the highest state deficit in the country and the highest personal income tax.
quote:
The Tax Foundation noted in a report that states like California and New York struggle with attracting businesses primarily because of their tax systems. “The evidence shows that states with the best tax systems will be the most competitive in attracting new businesses and most effective at generating economic and employment growth,” according to the report. Texas’ state and local tax burden is currently estimated to be 7.9 percent of income, one of the lowest in the nation, according to the Tax Foundation. Texas also boasts cheap labor and no state income tax.

But those companies moved to other states. They didn't shut down.

But it is a completely futile effort to reduce the deficit/pay down the debt. That's most people's problem with the suggestion. It's like arguing that the best way to put out a fire is to throw a little more gasoline on it.

They moved away from California, therefore no more taxable income by those companies, goes back to California. Therefore, California is raising taxes on everyone, while providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants who pay no taxes.

Let's just tax the rich at 90%. They have no say in their tax rate anyway, so it's free money.

There aren't any good ways to get there imo. Cutting medicaid/medicare & SS certainly isn't the answer.

Yeah, but then politicians couldn't garner votes by creating class warfare.

Depends on your perspective of good.

Correct. The answer is drastically cutting Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Defense, and Federal Welfare programs.
