If tax hikes on the Rich will only raise 82 billion a year

or run the government for another 10 days, why is the President so determined to go after such a little Revenue when we have a 1.1 Trillion dollar issue to deal with?

Can someone please explain this to me?

I don't think like a liberal, so I have no understanding whatsoever.

All of this is enough to make me want to curse the President.

How could you not want to do the right thing for America? What about the balanced approach he boasted?

Is he just a big liar?

All you need to know to understand Democrats is that they are NOT interested in solving problems.

ALL they do is campaign - they do whatever it takes to influence the feeble-minded for the next election.

I loath democrats. I used to reserve my disgust for their leaders only. But now, even the dumbest person is capable of seeing that the DEM party is interested more in winning an election than they are in solving a problem. So screw em all.

All Democrats are part of the problem these days.

If he is a Democrat, all he can do is lie.

Now it is solely and exclusively to use in ads against republicans in House races in 2014,

"Representative X claims to be a fiscal conservative and swore to never raise tax rates. But he voted to raise taxes in January 2013. Representative X is wrong on taxes and wrong for State Z."

The questions is why is the only lamb that is not to be sacrificed is that $28 Billion? The GOP wants to raise taxes on 98% of Americans if the top 2% see their taxes go up any at all. Meanwhile the same GOP is all about raising the eligibility age for Social Security (a necessary measure)and all sorts of entitlement reforms but the main thing is making certain that the top 2% do not suffer any tax increase. And the GOP wonders why blacks, latinos and women, all demographics that are largely absent from the top 2%, are solidly in the corner of democrats. It is truly astonishing to watch a party that was so strong in the 80's reducing itself to a regional party comprised of bigots and sniveling children. And in the process giving the extreme left in the Democratic party fresh hope that they can finally turn this country into the xanadu they have always envisioned. I don't know why ya'll can't see how dangerous pandering to the worst elements on the rigt have set the wheels in motion for the left to take over politically and yet you still stand in line to protect the interests of billionaires when the interest of 98% of Americans hand equally in the balance....

The GOP doesn't want tax rates to go up for anyone. Adjustment of upper marginal tax rates has minimal effect on federal revenue, which has historically averaged about 18 1/2 % of GDP. The US federal government does not have a serious revenue problem at this time - spending far exceeds what any reasonable income number could be right now.

And capping of deductions at $50k and the other measures proposed by the GOP will hit almost wholly on upper income people - poor people don't pay income taxes - the middle quintiles don't benefit nearly as much from deductions, because many don't not have enough to justify itemization.

Your premise is invalid, dawg.

I don't understand why so many middle class people jump up to support the top 1% and then blame the poor for their own short comings. Heck, Mitt Romney paid extra taxes just to reach 14%... although I am sure he is refiling as we speak.

Maybe they need to be raised even more on the rich for added revenue

This is the bilge that the DEMs have made into a believable mantra because it is repeated so often.

Substitute "blond, blue-eyed, jews" for "billionaires" and see if you would support such a proposal.

I don't think you would, because it would be INEFFECTIVE. I suspect there are more blond blue-eyed jews that are wealthy than poor, so it would be targeting 'where the money is.'

So maybe it only raises $100,000 instead of 80B. So what? Both numbers are INSIGNIFICANT when compared to 1.3 TRILLION dollars. Mathematically, both number become 'vanishingly small' compared to the 'infinity' of the debt.

So why not make the gesture?

Because it is just part of the DEM campaign lying game. Find a target and attack it. This delays working on real solutions for another election cycle.

AND if the GOP accepts this meaningless gesture in terms of 'working together' they WILL be eviscerated in the next election for their version of "read my lips" <-- the last (and most effective time) that the DEMs cajoled GOP to go against principle and agree with DEMs in the 'promise' of future concessions on spending.

You remember that well - DEMs talked Bush into going back on his campaign pledge and then reneged on the deal. (as they always do) Then, the bad effects came in and the DEMs blamed BUSH for enacting THEIR idea.

Screw that - without REAL spending cuts NOW - the GOP should walk away and vote "present" - pass it - own it.

Because progressive, confiscatory and punitive upper tax rates don't make sense. They don't increase revenue (not appreciably) and it just smacks of class warfare that people in the lowest quintile get "refunds" when they didn't pay anything (welfare), but then the marginal rates on income over $250k (which is very nice, don't get me wrong, but on the coast in California, Northern Virginia/DC, many places in the Northeast, $250k is definitely not "rich"), start to approach 50/60/70 percent when you combine federal, state, local income taxes, property taxes, consumption taxes, etc.

And ya'll never have the answer as to "How much is enough?" Is there an amount where you can say, "Okay - X% is just about right, but Y% would be too much."?

There's nothing to explain.

Leftists formulate their policy 100% around the class envy meme. They know that the bulk of Americans don't comprehend the numbers involved with American budgets but they also know that the bulk of Americans(or people in general for that matter) want to hear that they can have what they have now but with no pain.

Few people acknowledge their own role in how they arrived where they are in life so the idea that the guy on the top rung somehow got over on you is a very easy sell.

You are apparently bad at math.

Not that I'm surprised.

Oh. And economically stupid.

Again, not surprised. You are the classic jealous liberal. You're practically the prototype market for leftist dogma.

THIS is what the MEDIA should be drilling the DEMs on as a followup to EVERY answer they give.

Certainly the media has never shown any hesitancy to offer up counter-point questions to any idea proffered by a GOP president.

Anyway, the GOP is not opposed to the "rich" paying more MONEY in taxes - just don't screw with the RATEs. Keeping the RATEs low is what will fuel economic growth.

So 'regional' to you means the region from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian border from the Atlantic coast to the Rocky Mountains? Is that the region you're referring to?

dawg's response is an example of why so many voted for Obama- they simply either have not taken the time to look at the issue factually, they don't understand, they don't want to believe the truth or they make decisions and conclusions based on what someone else has sad or based on gut feelings

bottom line is the majority of the voters in this country do no research and vote based on hearsay, their feelings and lack of knowledge and truth

You won't find any libs posting in here....these are logical questions, to which they don't have answers.

And then some incompetent response from some jack off with 30 posts who couldn't think for himself given an instructional guide posts what he thinks is the answer.

So you're going to raise taxes every single year on only the rich to keep up with the growth of entitlements?

I see no proposal from the GOP concerning deductions that would affect the wealthy. Only deductions that would affect everyone.

And lower rates do not "fuel economic growth". One could argue that the rates on the wealthy were already low before the tax cuts. How low is low enough for you guys?

This is a terrible argument. There must be something stickied on Drudge b/c I see this thread 5 times a day. The tax hikes on the rich are about 500 times > than the budget of NPR and many conservatives advocate eliminating that as a solution to our deficit problem.

$82 billion is $82 billion.

I love this bull shite statement that gets trotted out on here several times a day like Mittens' sole plan to cut down deficit spending was to eliminate NPR and then sit back and watch the surplus grow. frick
