i dont count either..i ask them did they hear what i said, if they say no, i say excuse me, then they say no sir, then i tell them one more time..thats it..if they say yes sir and they havent started moving they get one..9 out of 10 times i dont have to tell them again..
and no im not trying to be mr badass either..if my kids are old enough to understand what im telling them then i expect them to do it. plain and simple

Be quicker to count than that debate you are having.
My kids listen.
I hope like they believe in Santa and enjoy the hell out of it. We have an elf on the shelf and a big arse tree in our house with wrapped presents. My kids are having fun with Christmas. It has nothing to do with getting them to act right.

i didnt say it did..just where the thread was going toward..
we give them gifts for christmas..they enjoy unwrapping gifts from their mom and dad and from their siblings..we have 4 kids and bring them to get their siblings a gift around $20 so they can see what giving is about..they enjoy the heck out of that too..

We are... But there's no "better watch out" stuff for a 2 year old. He just lights up when he finds him in random places.

Same here, I'm enjoying it and my 6 year old is buying it so its fun. Last night the "elf" wrapped the doorway to his bedroom completely closed off with gift wrap. The elf was sitting in the hallway holding the roll of tape. Hilarity this morning when he woke up!

It has nothing to do with being a 'good parent'.
It's not a disciplinary tool - my kid loves waking up in the morning and looking for the damn thing, and we love watching him look for it, and laugh when he finds it. Is it silly? Yes. But it makes my 6 year old happy, so I'm all in.

First year doing it for my 4 year old and he loves it, we read the book and I move the elf nightly. Don't really use it as a discipline tool. Those who don't understand it, or refuse to do it are short-changing their kids on some of the magic of Christmas, my son loves waking up and seeing where the elf has "landed". And telling the elf that he made a "happy plate" or what he wants Santa to bring for Christmas. He absolutely is enchanted with the elf and the joy of Christmas.

We have an Elf and my 6 year old loves it. He has fun trying to find it every morning and that's all that matters is that he's having fun. I keep reading about so many people having a problem with the Elf and Santa. When to tell their kids, etc. let the kids enjoy the imagination while they are young and don't worry about it.

I have a 6 and 7 year cold and the excitement they get in searching for the el each morning is enough or me. They are only young for a little while. We don't do any o the stupid shite like messes an such. We just move him around each night.
