I agree that the man is a POS, but lets not act like he was alone in this. many others also snapped pics and vids ono their cells rather than go help the man,.

Equally disgusting that anyone would want to capture something like that.

sanctimonious OT do-gooders lets say it WAS a full 22 seconds. that means someone has to be PAYING ATTENTION to what is going on..that's probably 5-10 seconds to comprehend what you're seeing..and then another 5-10 seconds to decide if you're going to take action and then there's the whole THUG who may or may not still be there..or possibly a gang where one of his buddies might still be there. its fricking NYC subway for crying out loud..who the hell is going to decide in 10-15 seconds they want to also put their life on the line to rescue someone not knowing if they're putting their own lives in danger. oh and lets not forget there's a 15 ton subway barreling down the tracks toward you at the same time. you guys are all such saints

Why is the photographer singled out for not helping the dude but everyone else on the platform is given a pass?

I get all of that. I'm not even pissed that the guy didn't try to help him. I'm disgusted by the fact that they posted it on a cover with that ridiculous headline and now this mother fricker is trying to cash it.

Well I guess this sums it up. We're no longer expected to help anyone at anytime because of all of the unknowns. Doing the wrong thing is now perfectly acceptable. How times have changed.

definitely. especially if the guy WAS pushed. how would you like to be his wife or child and see that photo on news stands all over the city? it's heartbreaking.

Because he's the only one trying to cash in on it.

LINK watch that. subway passes in front of camera at 21 seconds in more or less. you mean to tell me if you saw a guy struggling for his life on the tracks you're going to bend over in front of that train possibly getting pulled down yourself as he gets a death grip on you? there's a reason lifeguards are trained and get certified to help people drowning.

SIAP, but in the heat of the moment wouldn't you be scared the guy would frantically pull you into the tunnel when trying to get him out.

when I covered sports, the photographers were sometimes too stoned or lazy to shoot, and they would give me an auto everything camera and tell me to shoot the shite myself best advice ever, even though they were being smartasses about it, "just keep clicking off pictures and maybe you'll get something" I use this advice to this day, actually it works, especially when it isn't your film and today you can just erase shite because i don't use film anymore, i use digital cameras anyway, the point is, you have to make a conscious effort to remember to take a picture in these circumstances. i can't tell you how many times I've seen professional photographers just stand there with their mouths open when something awesome happened, forgetting they even had a camera in their hand. even the seasoned cameraman, i believe it's the same in this situation. so, the fricker knew what was going down and had to actually make a conscious effort to block everything else out and start shooting pictures.

Abbassi claims he was frantically running to help the man while simultaneously flashing his camera...yet he won't tell his story to CNN unless they pay him.
He did an interview on the Today show this morning. There were people closer than him that didn't help. Claims he was using his flash to try to alert the conductor.

I don't know what I'd do but I know I would be snapping perfectly framed pictures.

The other thing that's just sticking out in all of this is the guy's emotions when he gets on TV. They had to admit the conductor to a hospital for shock. The photographer is going on any show that will have him like he's talking about seeing aliens or some shite.

No more smug than your original post condemning people for believing that the photographer or other bystanders could have helped. (pssst...it took me 21 seconds to type my smug response. you were close)

yeah i'm not defending the photographer as much as the people who stood around and 'did nothing'. thats a whole lotta information to process in 20 seconds or so. i bet if you could stop time and give everyone on that platform 1-2 minutes to think about what they just saw happen..then unfreeze time someone would have helped. just not enough time to think. remember this is NYC where everyone is hardened to look the other way..jumping in and doing something heroic in a 20-second window would take a pretty special person to be in the right place.
