To be honest, the only thing I DO dislike about the Christmas season is the need for people to run around telling people to "Keep Christ in Christmas." No thanks. I'll keep doing it the same way I always have, thanks. Though I'd suggest those people who feel the need to say this to others actually adopt this slogan. Completely drop the rest of the pagan and secular traditions that have been adopted over the years. Get the tree out of your house. Don't put the inflatable snowmen in your yards...take down all the lights and garlands and wreaths. Is there anyone who ONLY celebrates Jesus's birth at Christmas, and doesn't partake in all the other stuff to some degree? If so, kudos to that person...that's someone I can respect.

I did this when my kids were little. Christians told me I was crazy because I did not teach my kids about Santa Claus. Jehovah's witness had mad respect for me though.

To you: I may think that's crazy, but I respect your commitment. This nonsense about wanting the fun parts of the secular holiday while getting to point at others who do the exact same but stop short of going to church grates on my nerves. Hell...I even love religious Christmas music! I don't have to believe in any of it to enjoy the story. I loved Star Wars as a kid...I don't believe in Jedis.* *and here's where the fight will begin, even though that's not the intent. haha

I'm not telling anyone what to believe. My point is to have tolerance for others' beliefs.

Despite Bill O'Reily's rantings to the contrary, no one is stopping Christians from celebrating Christmas how ever they see fit. I tolerate most beliefs, so long as they don't effect me or hurt others. I don't respect anyone's belief merely because they hold it. I respect their reasons for having that belief assuming they have good ones. Merry Christmas.

+1 I tend to agree with much of your assessment. My mother is crazy religious, but she goes absolutely crazy over buying presents and the season. My sister is also crazy religious (minister), she is raising her kids to de-emphasize santa and presents...focusing on the holiday. I really like that, although it annoys the shite out of my parents.

yeah, I really dislike christmas music. Its more about the repition than the music itself. The music wasn't bad the first 1000x I heard it but I get really sick of the same music (same problem with classic rock). How many times do I have to hear the chimpmunks sing?

For the last 5 or 6 years we go on vacation that week to wherever there is snow, and no presents. I've been wanting to do this for years. Now that my son is a little older, I think we might seriously consider it.
We give kids presents, no adults participate in gift exchanges. Lots of snow, and mistletoe though . First friday gallery walk is this Friday, one of the best traditions we have where the downtown tree is lit, and galleries open with drinks and snacks (including wine or cider for those who drink) and the christmas parade.

I worked in a music store at one point in college, so I have a huge Christmas music collection. And given that there are only so many Christmas songs, I could put together albums of one song sung by 12 different artists. It's actually what I enjoy about them...that they are essentially all cover tunes. I know this makes me weird. But seriously...some of the most beautiful Christmas songs are the most religious. The fact that I don't subscribe to the belief system doesn't mean I can't enjoy the beauty of say, Frank Sinatra singing O Come All Ye Faithful.

Yeah...this isn't in the rotation.

Once my siblings and I graduated high school, our parents had no issue with us drinking during family events.
