Based upon your posting history, I'd hardly say that is a surprise. You seem, to me, to be one of those overly liberal, effette, meek people that seeks validation from others in everything you do. You probably cannot be happy unless you're misreable, hence your disdain for any suppossedly joyful time or event. You probably try to pick up women by loudly discussing how much of a feminist you are. I know your type pretty well, and they make me want to vomit. Be a man for God's sake.

I think I'm going to lobby pretty hard to do Christmas the Salmon way next year.

I actually really like this time of year - minus all the crazy shopping.

Imagine that. People wanting to talk about Jesus at Christmas.

You non-believers get the entire rest of the year to bash Christians. Can we not have basically one month to celebrate our beliefs?

Easter is a more important holiday for Christians, fwiw, and not in December.

That's debatable, and I know exactly when Easter is, FWIW. But since this thread is about Christmas, that is what I am responding to.

You really don't know me. I am an arrogant SOB, and don't really seek validation. And honestly I have no idea how not liking christmas makes me less of a man.

With all that said, I usually find that people call other people effiment and tell them to be a man, love the dick the most. Does your boyfriend give you a reach around while he fricks you up the ass? I am betting he doesn't, since he is a "man."

yeah, that was my point, its not a secular holiday even if people pretend it is.

I don't really bash christians. And I am all up for you celebrating your holiday, just don't force it down my throat.

Just because some dead jewish carpenter has a birthday doesn't mean slap dicks like you should get a day off work. This is real life and work doesn't do itself just because some guy you like was born 2000 years ago.

And for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure there's been over 365 jewish carpenters born on different days of the year, since the jews started doing carpentry. So why shouldn't we just all be off work all the time? Woopity do!! Grow up and go to work.

I personally am not a fan of christmas. Some of the reasons are personal (i.e. family shit) but also I find the materialistic aspects of it really disgusting.

So, you're broke and you hate the idea of having to buy your relatives presents?

You sound like a sad individual.

ETA: I guarantee that you loved it growing up when you really didn't have to buy anything for anyone else.

I called you effete, not effeminate, although you may be that too.

Very nice. What do you have against homosexual people? Typically people like you would loudly proclaim your acceptance of homosexuals (in addition to showing your feminist credentials). Very nice of you to not do something nice for your family and just shut your mouth and go to church. Instead, you have to whine in your typical mealy-mouthed way about how you're being asked to do something you don't like. Nice family man behaviour. You sound like a joy to be around.

you don't know me man. Seriously, just b.c I don't like the materialistic aspects of christmas, doesn't mean I don't give nice presents. I don't like how christmas is about getting stuff, and people put together christmas lists. That makes me sick. I usually give pretty thoughtful gifts.

But that is right, you know me man.

wait, so people aren't allowed to express their opinions here? Or only positive opinions? Give me a fricking break, I don't like christmas for various reasons.

Yep, I am a complete arse and I tell everyone how much christmas sucks all the time.

For the last 5 or 6 years we go on vacation that week to wherever there is snow, and no presents.

I've been wanting to do this for years. Now that my son is a little older, I think we might seriously consider it.

Did this for years because it was a good time to be off (business was slow). The kids were teenagers and they loved it. Can't do it now due to current job and it sucks.

Also thanks for sharing the song Fr33

The prevailing cultural dynamic is rightly celebrated. Victors don't show their power by kowtowing to lesser tribes.

Assimilation is the key

Guess it depends where you live. It's pretty damn secular here.

I honestly don't know anyone who claims to be christian or atheist that I see on a regular basis but we have some pretty nice Christmas traditions.

To be honest, the only thing I DO dislike about the Christmas season is the need for people to run around telling people to "Keep Christ in Christmas."

No thanks. I'll keep doing it the same way I always have, thanks. Though I'd suggest those people who feel the need to say this to others actually adopt this slogan. Completely drop the rest of the pagan and secular traditions that have been adopted over the years. Get the tree out of your house. Don't put the inflatable snowmen in your yards...take down all the lights and garlands and wreaths.

Is there anyone who ONLY celebrates Jesus's birth at Christmas, and doesn't partake in all the other stuff to some degree? If so, kudos to that person...that's someone I can respect.
