even if it was a check off line, their is generally some pretty hefty deductibles and cost involved in medical situations even with fricking "health insurance"

Not read all replies. Med-pay is a much better buy than UM if your concern is medical bills. It's cheap, and it's fault free. UM is not fault free.
If your concern is general damages, you need UM. If wages only, you can get by with UEO. I selected UMBI with lower limits than liability, but then again, I have huge liability limits.

UM is not fault free. Med-pay is. If you cause an accident, you and everyone in the car gets med-pay. If you cause an accident, you cannot collect UM in any way. Your passengers cannot collect your UM, but can collect your liability. Problem is, liability can simply refuse to pay with no penalty. Med-pay must be paid quickly regardless of any fault determinations.

No, it's not. A driver cannot be both an insured and an underinsured driver under the same policy. A passenger can collect his own UM, but not your UM.
