| OT Runners who've had Plantars (Posted on 12/5/12 at 8:59 am)
Has any tried the laser therapy? I had this for about three months. I've done the ice, stretches, and have tried to rest it rest it. I've run twice, about 3 weeks ago. It gets better and then it turns cloudy and rainy, and it's like I'm back to square one. Any advice

I have had plantars problem (if I don't do my tiptoe exercise) since the late 70's - I use a 4 x 6 board about 3 foot long to do about 25 tiptoe reps at least three times a week - I do about 8 miles a day - when I'm traveling sometimes I forget about these exercises and the pain will let know not to forget.

Don't run until the pain goes away completely and then continue to rest it for a couple more weeks, as it's still healing. You can cross-train or slowly jog while healing.

In terms of PF, you haven't had it that long. I know it may seem like you have, but this can take 6+ months. MY advice before turning to surgery is to find a good PT and go see him for therapy 3 times a week. If you can find a PT who uses the Alter G (anti gravity treadmill LINK), bonus because you can be running sooner and farther, but any treadmill will help.

I had the orthotrypsy. It made the pain probably 75% better, still have to stretch really good. It took a few months to the pain to get better post-surgery. I still use the board and other splints and stuff to stretch.

I read in a magazine once to massage with golf balls that you keep in your freezer.
