Study or read books of my choosing. I have a smartphone and still spend plenty of nights with it staying in my pocket

This is a serious question from a 19 y/o who is a student and has only worked one job, my current job, a retail job.
Are there seriously jobs out there where you get paid to sit around? You are here at work?
Not being sarcastic or whatever. That's crazy.

loya....most plant jobs have times(mostly nights) where you get to have hours of free time. It sounds great to everyone, EXCEPT the people who have done it. You are not suppose to sleep(tho we all do). I only work shift work when school is out so I don't know the long haul answer.

Why are people suddenly using verboten all over the place as an English word? It's a German word I learned in my third year of it but until last year had never heard anyone use it in English. Now it's EVERYWHERE. Some pop culture reference I'm missing?

You could study the unit operation, trace line and have training sessions with older operators.
