Youths work for entry level, low paying jobs. Those jobs today are taken by Mexicans. If you don't speak spanish you can't work productively with them. They will work for those low wages - in fact, middle aged Mexicans will work for those wages. Would you want your daughter working at McDonald's and be the subject of a bunch of slobbering non English s[peaking individuals. Like it or not that is reality.

I'm 40 and you can count on two hands how many months I've worked before I turned 22. I was a lazy kid but have a better work ethic than most people my age. I don't think working your arse off as a kid makes you a better employee later on. I think it is partly a genetic desire work, as well as a foundation laid down by your parents to succeed. Add a little healthy amount of competitive nature and you got a contributing member of society. My bro-n-law works his kids dick in the dirt, saying that it will make them successful. I think he is making his kids think he is a major prik.
