I love the Saints. But it is a dumb name. I can't imagine the team being anything else though, so I think that name proves the OP point. I like Pelicans- not number 1 choice- but give it time.

No it's not. When you look at these other names close enough (ignore the history behind some of them and just look at them for what they are) many of them are much worse than the Pelicans. Once people get used to the nicknames and they become more familiar, they seem to forget how crappy the name actually is.
Like Fun Bunch said in the other thread, there's a team whose mascot is a sock. A FRICKEN SOCK. Think about it.
