what are the best means to achieve peace? (if it is attainable)

simple question for you all, in a world where there are stockpiles of nukes and the united states probably has enough fire power to blow up half the world maybe even the entire world. If we want a world were there is no war (crimes are probably to much to stop. But what would it take to stop wars and have peace on earth.

I think probably a couple of popular ideas is to have a strong military force where your military is so strong that no-one would be willing to go to war with you so through this you have peace.

another popular opinion could be the only way to obtain peace is through good solid relations between nations and not this idea of a deterrent with weapons. When countries have disagreements instead of blockading ports and threading to blow up a couple of their cities maybe an honest dialogue between the two countries would work better.

also another question can it even be justified to have so many WOMD that you could wipe out the population of the world in a couple of weeks if you wanted to just to keep people from attacking you?

should we work to reduce our WOMD stockpiles and stop this idea of arms race with other countries.

Now that the Soviet union is gone does the united states have any needs for nuclear weapons do we need to worry about having a massive strong military force or do we have to much?

so again if you don't want war what is the best way to stop war.

Utilize technological advancements to increase resource availability and affordability

i.e. technological advancements in things like water desalination, crop production, and shelter construction, among others, will help bring about more peace throughout the world

Stop threatening/attacking others for things they do elsewhere.

Use resources to secure our borders/nation.

Too much "history" between various nations for there to ever be peace.

Biggest obsticials to world "peace":

1) competing religions with history of hatred
2) poor education in developing countries that allows the masses to be fooled/controlled
3) economic dispariancy between have nations and nave nots
4) goverment systems are different and opposed to each other (like democracry and communism was)

I'll give some politically incorrect ideas and say more nuclear proliferation and ethnic segregation.

Wiki...relevant point. I saw a piece on Fox this morning with Ray Kurzweil whose new book is "How to Create a Mind". Wow...I knew it was coming. Brain matter and cognition...meet Computer.

To this OP...all we have to do - assuming we make it to the techno-leap - is program the *ideal* human psyche, and download it into future humanity from the "sky".

Humanity...meet the Singularity!

Ahhh...the days of Boogie and Hemingway are looking better all the time for the next parallel universe adventure.

He asked a legitimate question. You're trying to make it personal.

In response to the OP I tend to agree with Wiki. While there are great differences in political, social, and religious beliefs among nations I do believe that when people are not simply trying to survive but have their basic needs met or exceeded then there is a chance for a greater level of peace and understanding.

uniting against a common enemy. However, this peace is often temporary.

The only way that humans will ever have a "lasting" peace is if they are at war with an outside force.

We will always fight unless there is a common foe that threatens our species as a whole.
