Running vs Cycling

Why all the love for running on this board? People have such serious threads about the shoes they were and brag like they're some kind of macho fitness Adonis because they can jog at FOUR miles per hour.

Meanwhile cyclists connect themselves to a 12lb machine, scream down switchbacks at close to 70mph (fastest speed i've hit personally was 68), slam elbows and legs into each other going 30mph around corners in packs of 75 people on uneven pavement which more often than not results in gnarly pileups of blood and broken bicycles and truly COMPETE in races sprinting at 40mph+ on the line in an adrenaline-fueled orgy of winner-takes-all after racing 75 miles in 4 hours..the whole time at your maximum heartrate.

...yet the cyclists are the ones ridiculed as wimpy and the gear they wear is mocked. when's the last time a jogger did anything except get poor little shin splints because him'ums ran 5 miles and hurt his wittle footie.

re: Running vs Cycling
I never knew there was a runner vs cyclist pissing match on here. I guess people rag on the gear and get annoyed with cyclists on the road?

re: Running vs Cycling
because cyclist are more often than not annoying gear heads

when a sport is 50% gear, it is pretty laughable

Running is more primal. I don't remember watching nat geo and seeing some dude chase down a lion on the Serengeti with a trek.

Both seem to have a want to get away from something, so I vote they're equal.

i think what he's saying it doesn't have that element of danger like you get in a crit race.

Because runners do not complain as much about not getting respect from automobile drivers, then go break the traffic laws that they should be following.

re: Running vs Cycling
yeah because drafting behind the lead guy for 95% of the race is really adrenaline inducing

Whoa now...this is elite level.

I'm a 17 mph guy myself. Stretch that over 75 miles and thats plenty enough of a workout for me.

have you not ever been to a crit race? where they fly down at 50 mph and take a 90 degree curve in a pack? it's a little more than drafting.
