So your disability check would be equal to you salary? Will it pay your out of pocket medical expenses...copays and deductible ? Should you lose bodily function to some degree, your disability benefit going to compensate you for that?

Well...if your spouse is killed...it would be nice to recover lost wages...loss of consortium.....wrongful death???? Right??? Obviously, health insurance doesn't help there, does it. Um is the most important coverage you can have period.....and to those who think this is greedy...well...I just hope it doesn't happen to you.

Ahh...its not stupidity....its a lack of understanding. I have several clients who have purchased significant um policies after getting screwed because of not having it....they werent stupid....just didnt understand the significance...or didnt think it could happen to them.

I don't remember the terms, but pretty much. Barring me being a quadriplegic, I am taken care of for a good while.

Copays and all that through my insurance are manageable. I had knee surgery (ACL reconstruction) and literally paid $0.

Up to a degree...but if I'm at that point, me having $25k UMBI policy is pocket change. Look, I'm not saying you guys are wrong. I'm just saying that your reasons for getting it doesn't seem to fit my situation. Please tell me if I am incorrect. So far, I am leaning towards getting it anyway just in case due to low dollar principle. You've convinced me...but if I was on a tighter budget, I would probably balk.

Ok....suppose,you fracture a vertebrate....are paralyzed. You make $100k a year as an architect...but cant work anymore. Same difference. With um, you get something for that loss. There is a "pot" to collect from.

Agreed. But up to what the policy covers...which is again, a small chunk of change compared to not being able to work for the rest of your life as a person in their mid 20's. If some dude without insurance paralyzes you, you're fricked no matter what 'typical' uninsured motorist coverage you have. Yay, I get $25k...so what. I'm paralyzed.

Well I'm not going to tell you to trust someone you don't know. I believe I answered some of the questions asked on the thread too.

I would suggest more than $25k. But, if that is what you have, then it is till 25k more than you would otherwise have. Can feed you for a few months anyway.....

Then I believe you'll have to carry 25/50 UM, should you chose to carry the coverage.
