Discretionary spending lowest as % of GDP since ike

Doing work lil fellas!

ouch

quote:

Before weighing in on the campaign ad, Booker argued May 20 in a roundtable discussion on NBC’s "Meet The Press" that Obama needs to remind Americans of his accomplishments, such as overseeing the lowest level of discretionary spending in decades. "First of all, I think it’s a race for President Obama to remind the American public (of) the kind of things he’s been doing and stop letting the other side steal his narrative," said Booker, a Democrat and a representative for the Obama campaign. "He’s a guy that’s cut taxes on small business, the lowest discretionary spending we’ve had in decades in the United States."

It’s actually the other way around, PolitiFact New Jersey found.

quote:

As a percentage of gross domestic product -- which is a measure of the nation’s economy -- discretionary spending under Obama reached its highest level in about two decades, according to figures released by the White House’s Office of Management and Budget.

quote:

Discretionary spending is projected to drop to a level not seen at any point in the last several decades, but that would not occur for a few more years.

Oh, BTW, the source of the graph above . . . . . . . . . is the Obama Whitehouse.

2.2T is a reasonable counter offer, assuming it was 2.2T a year.

No these are 10-year "projections".

Otherwise we are just pissing in the wind.

Not really, but it is just political theater for the masses. The electorate voted for default. The powers-that-be just have to manage that as best they can.

I honestly know that the media is made of very stupid people so I'm not sure if they are just ignorant or dishonest in not challenging the use of a stimulus adjusted budget to reflect true year over year spending differences.

I took a look at the offer proposed by the republicans and its an empty shell just like obama's.

LINK

quote:

Republicans are keeping to their opposition to tax rate increases, and aides said Monday they believe that $800 billion can be raised from the wealthy through other means, which their offer does not specify.

quote:

the Republicans are proposing $600 billion in health savings, $300 billion in savings from other mandatory spending and $300 billion in further cuts to discretionary spending.

They really think no one is paying attention. Well they are fricking spot on.

they've already proposed limiting deduction to $50k. How is that not specific?

Its not mentioned in their letter. Who knows if that is included or not, only the house leadership. Certainly not myself, you or obama without clarification.

This sounds familiar, but I can't place it....

Yes I can. Obamacare. Pass it to see what's in it. I think everyone should know what's in it, and odds are you can find the full proposal somewhere online.

I searched and couldn't find it.

From the WSG
quote:

The proposal represented a series of targets without much policy detail that explained how they would be met. Asked if the plan called for an increase in the eligibility age for Medicare, the GOP aides didn't answer directly but one said, "I don't think there is any way to get a comprehensive deal without it."

Vapid on details.

I wouldn't go using the piece of trash that was obamacare as the model.

Its just a hollow offer....exactly like obama. Cliff here we come!

here is the offer letter

I think "the cliff" is a better deal than either side is offering at this point.

i agree. But then the democrats will put forward, tax cuts for the middle class. And then dare the republicans to vote against them.

the democrats have run circles around the republicans, both from a policy and politics perspective.

its not that they are in no win situation, they are actually in we will completely lose no matter what situation.

1:1 will never happen. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the house on that.

A lot of people speaking out. It is a shame that there is fear of Obama that he will put someone on a bad list or something. I think there are too many speaking out that just like AttackWatch! TAhere is strength in number.

They are doing more than Obama. What is Obama's plan exactly? Post a link to his budget, any budget will do. And not his last stimulus before this one. That was garbage with an order to nationalize banks in it and pay off his fat cats he says are the boogie man.

What exactly is Obamas plan? Other than making the debt ceiling go to infinity and a stimulus and blaming others while he golfs and gets ready to go on vacation?

Unfortunately, I don't think the Whitehouse or Dems are going to take the Republican counter offer seriously until the Republicans make specific cuts to Mediacare/Medicaid/Social Security. Right now, they're just saying we'll figure it out in the future.

The pubs want to cut spending the dems want to spend. Obama has never shown any bipartisanship at all but lip service.

Obama is twisting in the wind with the twitter propaganda that Boehner will take 2K from the middle class when it is Obama that wants to increase taxes and raise the debt ceiling.

Obama brings nothing anyone wants to the table and he owns this.

I can't say I blame them on this. Obama thinks they are bluffing, has called their bluff and it appears he might have been right.

I dont see him really any differently than other pols. All talk, no game.
quote:

obama cleaned the republicans clock during the election, partly by using social media a lot more effectively than romney. He is trying to get his legions of robots to come out to support his agenda.
quote:

Obama brings nothing anyone wants to the table and he owns this.

Well since ALL spending and ALL revenue originate from the house of representatives, obama is not the one that owns it. He can only sign what the house passes (outside hijinks like obamacare).

The republicans will have to put something on paper, or we go off the cliff.

Obama is running circles around the republicans right now. It would be amusing if we weren't so completely fricked by it all.

Both the plans so far are a joke. Not only are the partisan hackery and vague on details but the reality is they will do jack shite about the deficit.
