having guided and run commercial lodges.... some 12-through 17 year olds are a heck of lot better in the blind then some 30 and 40 somethings...... it ain't the age.. it's the responsibility and experience/training of the hunter.... prayers and thoughts with all the families.. no doubt... kids that hunt a lot are by and large safer than most adults that rarely hunt - especially if hungover or still drunk.. the adults I am talking about...

No doubt. I still wouldn't want to hunt around them unsupervised. There are a lot of older hunters I don't want to be around, either.

I wasn't trying to imply anything about the legality of it. Just stating there age (opposed to being 17 or whatever the legal age to hunt alone is) likely had little influence in the probability of that accident happening. A thread where someone is asking for prayers for those involved in an accident like this is probably not the place to bring up the laws they may have been breaking.
I did not bring up any laws they may have been breaking. And if you don't want people being critical of the events that unfolded in this thread, you should probably not go out of your way to defend it neither. My 2 cents. Boys health is most important now though.

Chad as with any tragedy - there are surely lessons to be learned......the key is spreading the lesson..

Agreed, from the original prognosis to where he is now are light years apart.

They've taken him off sedation and waiting for him to wake up. Also think they will be able to remove breathing machine today or tomorrow. May have some speech issues, but surgeon is very hopeful.

I find it interesting how some people just naturally take to being responsible with a gun and some will never be able to get the hang of it. I was never specifically drilled on gun safety, but just picked it up when I was young. I don't even have to think about doing things when I do them, it just goes with what I am doing. Maybe muscle memory? I have been out with guys that have hunted for a while, and had to take their gun away from them because they kept pointing it at people. I have also been with girls who haven't ever touched a gun and are perfectly safe with it. It is just weird how some people just "get it" without having to think about it I know this didn't have that much to do with the muzzle sweep in the OP, but every time something like this happens it makes me wonder how we can go about better teaching people to subconsciously be safe because I don't really like it when someone points their gun at my head
