Well fellas, AFTER TAXES, U.S. corporate profit have reached the greatest percentage of GDP in history.
What conclusion are you trying to draw? You can't really draw much of a conclusion on profits unless you also look at revenue and capital expenditure numbers --which that pathetic "article" didn't do. Of course corporations are making tons of profit. They aren't investing in capital expenditures. Spend no money means higher profits. It also means a slowing economy in the near term and long term.

Wages for workers have hit the lowest, as a percentage of GDP, in U.S. history.
This is natural. We have an epic unemployment level. With more workers available than jobs --you expect salaries to rise? If so...

I love the way that you asshats don't realize (or ignore for the sake of making your point) that PEOPLE own corporations. That's right PEOPLE are making that profit. Wroker pay is the lowest ever because we've made it more profitable to be on welfare than to have a lower middle income job. Worker pay is lower because we've made hiring US employees draconianly expensive in the name of social justice. Worker pay is lower because companies are getting tired of being "punished for their greed" in America and relocating operations to places that are happy to have the jobs.

with current corporate governance, where stockholders are pretty much completely ignored on all sorts of issues, its relatively meaningless to say they are owned by the people. The people don't control them. Insiders do. And that $$ generated by corporations is much more likely to be wasted on cozy giveaways and wasted buyback programs than they are to be transferred to shareholders.

Something to add to this thread.. The high corporate taxes hurt small and mid sized companies, the big multinational monsters wiggle out of a lot of taxes. How much did GE pay in taxes in 2011? Nothing. LINK

pay more dividends to shareholders
What do you think the tax rate on dividends is? I bet you think 15%. Is that after it is taxed for the 2nd or 3rd time? Also, corporations do not pay taxes customers do. They are merely a collection agency for the various governments.

The rate of special dividends from large great American companies is coming at an alarming rate. If the politicos in Washington D.C. are not paying attention to this about how taxes will adjust behavior and decisions beyond 2013, then they are truly that much more inept than they seem today in their Fiscal Cliff negotiations. This is a direct and open attempt to get the cash back to shareholders before the 15% taxes go up to 23.8% or way up over 40% on the high-earners. CNBC tallied this figure up above $21 billion as of Friday and this is still just the last day of November. Here is just a partial list of our top one-time special dividends and accelerated dividends coming before the end of 2012. AOL Inc. (NYSE: AOL)... Brown-Forman Corporation (NYSE: BF-B)... Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ: COST)... Dillard's (NYSE: DDS) went out with a special dividend of $5.00 per share. When you consider that its quarterly payout is only $0.05 per share this massive. Enzon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ENZN) ... Guess? INc. (NYSE: GES) announced a special dividend of $1.20 per share to be paid by the end of December. This is 150% of a normal year's payout of $0.80 per share. Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co. (NASDAQ: HITK)... H.J. Heinz Co. (NYSE: HNZ) declared that it would expedite payment of its $0.515 common dividend ahead of the fiscal cliff. Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) is sending $2.75 per share back to holders, which is about 3-times its normal 2% dividend yield. National Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ: FIZZ)... Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE: RGC)... Tellabs (NASDAQ: TLAB) announced a special $1.00 dividend, which is returning 34% of the value of the company considering that it was a $2.95 stock yesterday before the post-news pop. The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS)... Westlake Chemical (NYSE: WLK) is sending a $3.75 dividend back to holders, about 5-times its normal annual payout and normal yield of about 1%. Wynn Resorts Ltd. (NASDAQ: WYNN)... We have compiled a list of the large tech giants which we expect to see a one-time special dividend from before the end of 2012. With Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) holding an investor event in the coming week, they are one of our most likely candidates.
You can add Walmart to the list as well LINK And these too... LINK

So because GE used the tax credits they got for GEC that means lots of large corporations wiggle out of taxes? Nice cherry picking.

Get the corps off their stockpiles of cash, get more money into hands of consumers (instant stimulus), increase tax revenues. Round 1 = Obama

When the tax rates on dividends goes up I cannot wait to see the government revenues go down as companies begin doing stock buy backs over dividends.
