| Would you ever stop watching football? (Posted on 12/3/12 at 1:06 am)
Is there anything about the game, rules, players, etc, that would cause you to stop watching football and take up another hobby? For example, with the replacement ref fiasco during the GB and Seattle game, I cancelled my gamepass subscription with NFL.com and vowed to never watch another replacement reffed game. What about the games violence and detriment to players' long term health; greed, apathy by the league towards fans, etc? Would you ever turn in your football fan card?

If the NFL turns into the NBA...I'll start thinking about it.

I'm about a big as football fan as there is, but this season has been rough. I'm a little less enthusiastic than I usually I am considering the disappointment from the Saints and LSU. Yesterday mornings NFL games were pretty damn good though. Lucks in the last few mins of that game was pretty great

The only time I even came close to not watching football was the Katrina year. We were so horrible that it was just tough to sit down and devote time to that mess. I always watched the game, but didn't care about catching it from the beginning or staying for the end. On the flip side, I drove from Georgia at 3 am to catch the Saints play the Browns a year or two ago. So I feel that helped balance it out.

if football continues to skew more and more to offense...absolutely. I hate shootouts and running out of the shotgun. I hate the spread/read option stuff being run in college. I probably only watch 3 or 4 college football games every season now that aren't big LSU games.

I do not think I would turn in my football card but could see myself not so much interested if the rules continue to change in favor of a high scoring game versus football in the trenches, Jeff Duncan.

I think a ban on gambling and alcohol is about the only thing that can stop football in this country. Football games have become a popular setting for social gatherings and betting on games and playing fantasy football have increased people's attachment to the game even more. Throw in some parity and the fact that you never really know how the ball's going to bounce Any Given Sunday and I don't think you'll stop football, even if it turns into Arena League.

If the Saints move from New Orleans and we no longer have an NFL team i will drastically change my allegiance to the NFL. I will still catch a game on Sunday or Monday. And I'll still play fantasy football, but I will never watch another Thursday night game ever.

Pain heals, chicks dig scares, glory lasts forever. Football is a game of massive freak athletes slamming into each other at neck break speeds for our entertainment. If you dont like violence then GTFO, but you cant take violence out of football. I hate it when women and pussies and queers try to argue with me how these poor little players get hurt sometimes. Players know what they are signing up for. The recent "football is too violent" thing is another example of people who dont know shite about anything picking up a cause they dont understand to feel better about themselves. “You came for a scause to wear on your paws. And you want others to wear yours upon thars’.”

There is not one conceivable instance i can think of that would cause me to stop watching the New Orleans Saints every Sunday. Not one.

Being in Death Valley and watching Ricky Williams arse rape our team with the Dolphins was brutal.

if the Saints ever reloctaed from NO, i think that would end my desire to watch anything NFL related. i have no alegiances to other teams. the saints were the 1st team I ever pulled for when I became interested in the NFL, and I have been with them ever since, my allegiance never wavering.......but if they arent in NO, then the NFL would be dead to me.

I am watching football specifically to see the violence. Same reason I watch UFC. If they change the game to the point where I can't see Ray Lewis lay the wood to a receiver, I'll watch something else. As for the players, they are paid well and know the risk. Like bull riders, they choose to participate. What will likely drive me from the NFL is the politicization of the sport via political rants (a la Bob Costas last night), and the sickening idea that sports are an agent for social change.

Agreed. I would however, continue to root against Atlanta each week of the season emotionally investing my fanhood in their opponent each week as "my team"
