Yes because the whole debt ceiling is stupid. If you Don't want to spend money don't approve the budget in the first place. Once the budget has been approved, i think it is silly to decide now you don't want to pay the bills.

Except that under Obama, there has been no budget the last three years....hence the question.

Sorry, but Obama hasn't even submitted a budget in years much less had a vote on one.

Link? I read that statement on this board all the time, but then I saw this...
quote:
Timing of Submission of the President’s Budget: Fiscal Years 1923-2013 Date of submission: 5/11/2009 2/1/2010 2/14/2011 2/13/2012 The President’s flagrant disrespect for budget deadlines extends beyond the late submissions of his annual budget request. The President is required to submit a Midsession Review no later than July 16 each year. The President is required to submit a Financial Report of the U.S. Government no later than December 15. The President is required to submit a plan to shore up Medicare’s finances within 15 days of a funding warning by the Medicare Trustees. Not once has President Obama adhered to any of these deadlines: • The President’s Midsession Review has never been released by July 16; • The President’s Financial Report of the U.S. Government has never been released by December 15; • The President has not once responded to the Medicare Trigger. The President’s failures to meet his legal obligations are symptomatic of a failure to meet his more critical moral obligation to the American people by tackling our most pressing fiscal and economic challenges.
LINK ...and didn't he just submit one yesterday? The first year he was 98 days late. The second year he was on time, the next two years he was a week late each. I mean, he's late as a dog, and disrespectful of Congress (who isn't these days?) but why do you people keep repeating the same falsehoods - and more importantly, where do they COME FROM?

Has any Obama budget ever received a "yay" vote? Last one was voted down 99-0 in the Senate. FY 2013 went down 414-0 in the House. So I guess it should be rephrased: Obama has clearly no concept of reality when submitting a budget. Hell, he can't get a single vote from his own party

Well, that's besides the point, isn't it? The point is, this:
quote:
Sorry, but Obama hasn't even submitted a budget in years much less had a vote on one.
...is a LIE. Straight up. Yet I see it repeated over and over on this board. With regards to:
quote:
Hell, he can't get a single vote from his own party
All he's legally required to do is submit a budget request from Congress. No where in the Constitution does it say he has to submit a passable bill. Everyone puts the blame at Obama's feet. What about the Senate Democrats? WTF? The bill is supposed to start in the House, go to the Senate and THEN go TO the President for his signature or veto. Remember?

no.

It is a misunderstanding. It comes from Roemer's misrepresentation. Obama has not been able to get a budget past either house of congress. That was the point Romney made that Roemer botched.
quote:
All he's legally required to do is submit a budget request from Congress.
And when you make a completely ludicrous budget, you get zero votes in either house. When a budget is too insane for Pelosi or Reid, you have to wonder if it was even serious. Probably just asked for eleventy trillion for the Barack Obama fund.

NO NO NO A CR is simply giving the government more money to continue working off of the largest, most bloated budget in American history. This is in no way a budget.

I guess that depends on what your definition of "is" is.

Obama has not been able to get a budget past either house of congress.
Curiously, that's not his job.

this is all BS political theater and you know it. both bills were brought to vote by republicans and only contained supposed numbers matching the white house plans, but without any detail or explanation. to characterize these as obama budget defeats is just another example of blind conservative obstructionism that panders to tea party primary voters, does nothing to consolidate ideas, and causes further friction.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's got that one as a throw away, just in case GOP fights him. I can't believe the Dems in Congress would go for this. Talk about an erosion of power.
