Lost Hawk? Somebody Looking for Me?

HeadBusta4LSU mentioned on the SEC Rant that someone was looking for me, presumably over here. They'd spotted a hawk with bells and jesses loose somewhere?

If I can get the info, I can pass it on via some falconry forums. We're a fairly close-knit group. Should be able to find the owner.

Oh, I'm not in that club. I don't get invited to all the cool parties.

Thanks for the alert Josey.

Yeah, I saw it this afternoon around 2:45pm on Highway 11 just on the inside of the flood gates near Irish Bayou.

I passed it on the right shoulder and realized what it was. Turned around and pulled back up to it on the opposite shoulder. It stayed there for a few seconds and then decided I was too close. As it took off to fly I heard the bells and saw the tassel hanging off its leg. It flew up into a tree and stayed there till I left

Here's a pic, It's a bit blurry from having to zoom in.

Click this link for a Google Map of where I saw it. Zoom in to the green arrow. That's about where it was.

Just another reason why this is the best site on Al Gore's Internet.

Returning wayward hawks to their rightful owners.

If I were a hawk I would bite the bells off, shite on a car and flash a middle talon on my way off.

I bet that hawk belongs to Tom and Jen.
In Baton Rouge, my friend Matt m is great friends with them.
I've been Falconing out of the Baton Rouge area.
I'm sure my buddy will know who operates down that way.

Actually, I know a guy from Pierre part who lost his redtail a few weeks ago.

Hmmmm

The coulson's mainly fly Harris hawks. This one is a mature red tail. I suppose it could be theirs, but I doubt it.

Pass this info along to him. I posted it in the lost and found section of NAFEX. Coincidentally there's some info on another hawk that was seen in LA on there too. So, one of these could very well be his.

re: Lost Hawk? Somebody Looking for Me?

Just wanted to let yall know the hawk was out there again today on my way home. I was late leaving today, at about 4:15ish. Yesterday I saw him at about 2:45ish.

It was in the same exact tree that it flew up into yesterday. I have a more precise location...

The location is on Highway 11 just south of Irish Bayou (Exit 254, first exit at the south side of the I-10 Twin Span Bridges) in New Orleans East.

- Follow HWY 11 SOUTH, back towards New Orleans for approx 2 miles.
- Pass through the flood control gates.
- Make note of the power line poles on right (marked by red dots in map) as soon as you pass the flood gate and count until you get to pole #5.
- Directly across the highway from the 5th pole is a dead tree (marked by green arrow).
- This is the tree that he flew up into yesterday and the same one that he was sitting in today when I passed again.

The tree is a little south of "half way" between the flood gate and the rock parking lot for the boat launch that's south of the flood gate.

Where is pow pows stand on that map.

Good luck finding him, I can't imagine the suckness of being a hawk that hunts by stealth and surprise and having a jingle bell on my foot.
