Because all of these crap schools that were going to get vouchers were putting all of the money into the class rooms? There are many types of bureaucracies. We should return to neighborhood public schools, save money/resources and return the community schools to the communities. Stop discriminating and stop shuffeling kids around for political purposes. Easy solution we destroyed somdething that worked, it can work again better than what we have now.

Thank God this was blocked. We don't need to start sending all of these lower income kids in to bring down the nicer private schools to public school levels.
You ignorant people crack me up. The great private schools weren't going to accept the vouchers. Some of the good private schools are accepting them, but in very limited numbers. What we currently have in La is some cesspool low end schools that aren't getting any better anytime soon. Give the parents the choice to send the kids to better schools.

Good! If the La program was set up properly, this will go to SCOTUS, get the stamp of approval, and vouchers will be law of the within the next couple of years.

You have that and schools that hiked their prices up beyond the voucher amounts.

The problem with the last part of that is for the majority of those kids, it's their shitty families that are the problem. It's not a coincidence that the shittiest schools are in the shittiest areas. Shitty families generally mean shitty kids which, when in large enough numbers will mean shitty schools. A friend of mine taught for a few years at the elementary school in Donaldsonville. The vast, VAST majority of the kids there are from poor, black, welfare families where only one parent is present (or, in some cases, grandparent or some other relative). THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH TEACHCERS, IT'S A PROBLEM WITH SHITTY PARENTS. And there's not shite that a voucher system can do unless it can send the kid away to a military academy. Why away to a military academy? Because these kids come from families and societies that are stuck in cycles that are nothing but downward spirals of shite. You can throw all the vouchers you want at them, but as long as they are forced to have to keep going back to their shitty families, there's no new foundation being built on and reinforced that would enable them to one day break that cycle. Vouchers are just placebos to make people feel warm and fuzzy because the real problem isn't something they can fix by throwing money at it.

Apparently it's only OK for the gov't to be "Unnecessarily aggressive and overreaching" when it's at the Federal level.

What if some of these parents actually do give a shite and would like to be able to send their kids to another school where they are not surrounded by idiots?

Sadly, the parents like that who have kids in schools like that are in a very, very small minority (otherwise the schools and other kids wouldn't be so bad). Their choices are to move or to sacrifice more. It's sad and it fricking, fricking sucks but making such a massive change for such a small group of people when state funds are becoming more and more at a premium is more counter-productive than anything else. The best option for those families would be to band together with other families in their area and harang the shite out of the local school and school board until things improve.

Crazy idea here, but instead of another government handout, how about they work a second job to pay for the private education like my parents did?

Just to be clear- The voucher program was ruled constitutional. The funding for the voucher program was ruled not constitutional (diversion of the MFP). A set-back, but hardly a major one.
