re: Gergen: Will Obama push us over the cliff?

Part of negotiating is having competing plans. Right now we have 1 plan. Why can't Republicans put forth what they want cut and how they want to raise revenue.

I don't think anyone thinks this was a dictatorial election, but at the same time there were 2 views presented and Americans chose the vision of Obama which is to increase taxes on those making $250k+. Survey data back up their support for increasing these taxes.

Well, it may not have been leaked for political gain.

But honestly, they did this for three months in the summer of 2011. It's pretty clear where the Republicans stand on the issues. There haven't been any major changes. They want significant spending cuts.

Yeah..as long as its the rich guy on the corner who they are envious of is paying more, that's okay.

But touch their taxes...noooooo...don't do that.

Because Boehner has already offered up what is acceptable in terms of new revenue. Now it's Obama's turn to offer up acceptable spending cuts.

If they are just going to throw unrealistic plans at each other so the other side can bat them away and point fingers like friggin third graders, then they'll get nowhere.
