| Every House GOP Committee Chair will be a white man (Posted on 11/29/12 at 7:55 pm)
Is there anything wrong with this picture? Or is the lack a diversity acceptable for a party that claims it wants to be more inclusive?
quote:
WASHINGTON -- House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced who will chair all of the major House committees in the next Congress. And it turns out they all have something in common besides party affiliation: they're all white men. There isn't a single woman or minority included in the mix of 19 House committee chairs announced Tuesday -- a stark reality for a party desperate to appeal to women and minorities after both groups overwhelmingly rejected Republicans just weeks ago in the presidential election. The one female committee chair that House Republicans currently have, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), is stepping down because her term is up. While there are still two lower-tier House committees awaiting a chair assignment -- the Ethics Committee and House Administration -- neither committee has any women or minority members. At least one Senate Democrat was quick to point out that something is missing from the Republican lineup. "Disappointed to see House committee chairmanships in the 113th Congress will not include a single woman. -PM," tweeted Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), who included a link to Boehner's press release announcing the chair posts.

Seems like having the 19 best people is more important than worrying if every minority group is represented

Maybe because anytime the GOP runs a minority candidate they're defeated by a white male democrat.

If they are the best for the job, why does it matter what color or gender they are?

Not at all, but when you look at a group and see that every single member fits a very specific demographic it gives the impression that the decision makers are unwilling to look outside that demographic.

so 99% of blacks vote dem, and for the few black republicans they redraw district lines to outster the black republicans, so that in the end they still can say 'hey look its a party of whiteys', that pretty much sum up the game?

No it gives people who want to make a big deal out of it an excuse to call it racist!! That's all! I want the best and brightest I don't care how they look. Some people can't look past the color of people's skin, pretty sad!

It just further perpetuates the stereotype that the GOP is nothing but a party of old white men.

What's more important; appointing a competent individual for a job or selecting them based upon race, gender, sexual preference, college background, etc and hoping you didn't frick up?

Interesting that a gay man is fapping to a stereotype about a political party. God I hope there are none in your life that bother you.

I'll respond with the same shite you would say when the affirmative action president appoints a Hispanic woman and a lesbian. They are the most qualified.

Col. Alan West and Mia Love from Utah got defeated. The choices are limited to pick from. We can't help it blacks are all Democrats 95%. I got sued one time by the EEOC for not having any black females working at the store service desk. No one ever applied or asked for it. And you have to work one Sunday a month. The black females cashiers that could do it did not want to work on Sunday period. That was under Jimmy Carter and I still can't believe that happened. I hired one immediately after I posted the job on the board. But no one ever asked for it in the past or was turned down. I saw what the bureaucracy was going to do to business right then. When I had to hire one to stop the suit, I had to cut a cashier out to stay within my given payroll budget, had to. So, they might not have any choices for chairmanships is my point.
