re: Former Israeli PM Ehud Olmert Supports Palestinian UN Vote . . . . . .

What an amazing development? Someone in a democratic country exspressing an opinion that differs with the policies of the elected government. How soon will he be assasinated? If he were a Palestinian who criticized the Palestinian leadership he would already be pushing up daisies.

quote:

While Obama and Congress oppose it and are doing everything in their powers to block it.
All disputes between the Israelia and the Arabs are the result of a war of aggression started by the Arabs according to international law. Such disputes must be resolved between the belligerent countries. Outside interference does nothing except strengthen the resolve of both parties. Thus symbolic gestures like the U.N. vote are counterproductive to negotiations for peace. Obama and Congress got this one right.

f they really didn't want to see that they would have voted NO.

Not sure why anyone but those states that voted no, would be opposed to justice for victims of violation of war crimes?

Why not just vote 'Yes' if it is a 'tacit' approval of Palestine status?

I 'm honestly just trying to figure out the political machinations behind the abstention vote at the UN?

If it's a clear signal that they aren't in lock step with Israel like the lap dog US & an abstention is a 'tacit' yes vote why not just vote yes.......?

The UK created this mess ,but cowardly abstained.

Because all Arabs are just Arabs right? It was not the State of Palestine , but other Nations which have now recognized Israel which invaded.

You probably will not be physically assassinated in the Democratic US for daring to criticize/disagree with Israel ,but you will be assassinated politically/personally.

It's only a one sided race to see who can suck up to Aipac/Israel the most.

Obviously, you aren't familiar with the praise heaped upon the murderers of "self-hating Jews" in Israel.

Palestinians, however, have grown impatient for the two-state solution that has been under negotiation since the 1970s.

they have had at least 3 chances at statehood and blown it all 3 times for obvious reasons.

but you are right it is all about statehood and olive farms.

Perhaps Fat Bastard and Poodlebrain can explain to the rest of us why the U.S. is so isolated on this issue. Does the whole world want to see Israel "wiped off the map"? Or perhaps the U.S. is just on the wrong side of history?

The savages now have an internationally recognized state that subdivides Israel geographically. This is going to get interesting.

What's going to be interesting is when will our government turn on Israel and actually stand for liberty and human rights for the Palestinian people.

Our government has absolutely zero balls. Why they let the AIPAC continue to control our country is disgusting.

Once again, we are going to go down in history as accomplices to the next holocaust.

This is why Russia and China give us the middle finger whenever we want something done about Iran or Syria.

This is just a BS symbolic gesture that has no bearing on U.N. Resolution 242. Asking Israel to go back to the 1967 borders just isn't going to happen. Yasser Arafat knew this, but still he rejected offers of peace from Israel.

I don't really care what the rest of the world thinks on this issue. The rest of the world sucked up to the Soviet Union at the U.N., and history showed the wisdom of those decisions.

If it was such a meanungless gesture, why did the U.S. and Israel pull out all stops trying to block it and why is it being reported as a major blow to the Netanyau government? Here isa sampling of the headlines from Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post:

"Israel suffers humiliating defeat at UN"

"How Israel lost Europe's support"

"Palestine wins historic upgrade at the UN"

Does Radical Islam runs the media and propaganda channels that influence the world?

Does Radical Islam have the Bible to back it up in its desire to kill heretics?

How has Radical Islam brainwashed the world? What is the process? School us.

Evidently, not just a good portion of the world, but the vast majority of the world, including a lot of Jews, and even the Vatican, are all brain-washed by Radical Islam.

re: Former Israeli PM Ehud Olmert Supports Palestinian UN Vote . . . . . .

Why should Israel accept the 1967 borders? What makes them any more permanent than the 1948 borders? Why was Israel allowed to keep territory captured in 1948, but it must give up all territory captured in 1967? The facts of who started each war are not in dispute, it was the Arabs. In each war, the Arabs lost territory, why is one war different than the next? U.N. Resolution 242 does not require Israel to give back any of the territory it captured and occupied. It only requires Israel to negotiate for permanent disposition of the territory.

And as far as the Palestinian claim to a Right of Return, where is this recognized under international law? U.N. General Assembly Resolution 181 that called for the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states addressed this issue in Part I, Chapter 3. If the Palestinians are going to rely on Resolution 181 as the basis for their right to have a state, then they should also have to rely on the same for determining who has citizenship in either state. And Resolution 181 was rather specific as to the conditions for Arabs having citizenship in Israel and vice versa. There was a one year window for making the claim. Palestine decalared its independence on November 15, 1988. How many Arab residents of Palestine applied for Israeli citizenship within the next year? Only those would have any claim to a right of return according to U.N. Resolution 181.
