re: History will be kind to Barack Obama, mainly because of PPACA

quote:

Okay, so if I have a life-threatening illness, I have a right to have that illness cured if it's possible. Right?

NO....NO you do not!!!! Sorry.

Can I spell it out for you. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

quote:

Otherwise, what does it mean to have a right to life

Means the GOV can't kill you for no reason.

It doesn't mean cancer won't!!!

You can't be this obtuse.

quote:

If my life is threatened by no fault of my own, is there no protection under this right?

Yep no protection from natural causes. NONE zip..period. Sorry, how old are you?

You aren't given a right to have illness free life. Sorry.

Under your logic, a child born with an illness has a right to sue the gov if the gov can't cure him.

I am disappointed in you guys, I expected more from the poliboard. Where in that statement did i reference anything about other countries being more modern, or other countries at all?

We are the most modern. We have a responsibility to continue leading the progressive charge. Times are a changing.

Um aren't we following other countries when it comes to this. We are not the first to implement this.

Yet it isn't surprising at all that you can't seem to distiguish between the questions:

"You disagree that we have a right to health care?" Which is what I asked, and, "Do we have a right to healthcare insurance?" which is NOT what I asked.

It's also not surprising that you haven't been following closely enough in the thread to read my statement, "first you have to establish that it is indeed a right, then you go about figuring out how to protect it."

You're just in such a rush to do your little endzone dance, you're ignoring the questions.

Still ignoring the questions I asked. Deflection after name calling....same ol play book.

This is foolishness. Let's accept the (sic) premise that one should not be responsible for themselves if it's "no fault of their own". That means, the tax payers must pay for it... why should it become their fault you are sick?

Shouldn't they have the same claim that your sickness is "no fault of their own"?

Why would you consider it a right?

As someone else has pointed out, no hospital can legally turn the sick away. So we have the de facto right.

How exactly are we "the most modern" when our leader is forcing us to repeat the political and social failures of other countries?

If anything, we're just 50 years late to the party and now we're trying to play catch-up so we can be as miserable as the rest of the world...

You're just in such a hurry to jump up and down.

Sit back down in your seat.

Let's get back to the point, should health care be considered a right, why or why not?

Also, it is not government's job to provide that.

How do you think we should deal with people without health insurance when they show up at emergency rooms?

False. Only applies to the ER (via EMTLA) taking federal funding. The rest is essentially charity practiced by those evil doctors and hospitals.

quote:

So we have the de facto right.
A right, or a de facto right? They are not equivalent.

De facto (English pronunciation: /di? 'fækto?/, /de?/,[1] Latin pronunciation: [de? 'fakto?]) is a Latin expression that means "concerning fact." In law, it often means "in practice but not necessarily ordained by law" or "in practice or actuality, but not officially established."

By your definition it is not a right.

Do you have a right to a house? Do you have a right to clothes? Do you a right to have shoes? Do you have a right to a car? Do you have a right to food?

Perhaps so, but this is a health care thread. Please try to stay on topic.
It's a legacy thread.

In that vein, the presumption of a 50y/o's healthcare being a right and therefore being subsidized thru taxes borne on the shoulders of 25y/o's should not be the stuff of positive legacy.

The design of a program which predictably will increase healthcare costs is not the stuff of positive legacy.

There is no right to healthcare and any who suggests otherwise is, IMO, misguided or just ignorant.

I don't owe you treatment, just as you don't owe it to me to get treatment.

Moreover, the fact that my tax dollars have been and will continue to utilized to pay for the self-induced health related issues of people that refuse to buy health insurance, yet somehow afford otherwise extravagant lifestyles is a travesty.

Is healthcare for treatment of health issues related to the use of crack a right? What about treatment for a person that wrecks a motorcycle at twice the speed limit? Is treatment for a morbidly obese women that have lived on ding-dongs and beer causing any number of issues a right when she put herself in that position in the first place?

Example: Walked through a hospital cafeteria recently. I saw a CNA eating warmed up fried chicken on top of popcorn for lunch with a 32 oz. soft drink. She, as you can imagine, would qualify as being obese. This is an educated healthcare employee behaving like this...which she has the right to do...but she should not have the right to expect someone else to foot the bill for her self-induced health related issues.

Why should tax payers be responsible for her inevitable heart disease, diabetes, knee replacements, etc?

We all should have the right to enjoy and accept the consequences of our decisions, both good and bad. If a person makes the decision to work hard to afford a better life for themselves, that right should not be taken away to pay for above referenced people.

Likewise, I have the right to eat as badly as I want...but I also should be forced to deal with the consequence of that decision.

As to the OP, I have no doubt that history will view Obama "favorably" because those that write the books are liberal progressives. Just as FDR is revered in this nation, so too will be Barack Obama. However, the tangible evidence of their harmful ways will be present in every facet of your kids and grandkids lives.

However the docs and hospital sees fit.

If someone demands money from you, do you feel you should be forced to give it to them?

That's the thing. It is a right. We are a modern country.

How do you ratify forced automobile insurance? Let's hear it.
