LSU was 5 fluky plays from being 5-7 this year.

LSU is always fluky plays from having 4 losses...fortunately for us we win, ugly or pretty, we win.

In all honesty that auburn '06 game was truly the maddest I have been at an lsu football game after it was over. I hated the play calling in that one and the refs just pissed me off. I was at that one and can remember how mad I was walking out of Jordan Hare.
Was probably the most frustrated I've ever been as well.

Which games required a fluke play for LSU to win? All I can think of is Ole Miss. LSU played Auburn, A&M, Arkansas, and SC close...but can't think of any whacky heroics that LSU desperately needed to win.

That one play vs. Arky where Mett took a sack with a bad loss on whatever down it was (3rd?) ... but, refs called false start or something and we got a re-do ... that was pretty damn lucky. Maybe not flukey ... but damn lucky.

I get pissed at Miles often, but I REFUSE to blame Miles for losing a Fixed Game. You just can't fault him for that. Every big play LSU made was called back, or there was an infraction on AU that wasn't called. As a coach, you can't beat 18 players on defense. There is no way to gameplan for that. NONE.

Not as lucky as Bama, that's for sure.

I'm a firm believer you are what your record says you are. At the end of the day Bama is a dynasty because they have made the plays necessary to win just like we have in all these games we "should have lost".

I hate blaming the refs, but that is the only game I ever thought a team a root for in any sport truly lost because of bad officiating. Bama's big bit of luck is this: easier schedules while LSU, their biggest rival for the division, plays the statistically hardest schedule possible. That, and the collapse of the Tennessee program. Of the top 6 teams in the SEC, LSU has played 4. Bama played 2. Both went 500, but one is in the title game. Last year, LSU played 4 of the top 6. Bama played 3. And despite not making the SECCG, got to go to the BCSCG, while LSU has to play a 5th of the top 6. That's staggering good fortune.

That's not entirely true. Last year and this year, Bama has needed similar luck to LSU's 2007 team to get to their title with REDICULOUSLY weak schedules. Not to mention a mulligan of epic proportions. It is not often a team can lose it's two biggest home games of the season to divisional rivals and still make the title game. Yet no LSU fan here will ever mention this fact. Aside from 2009, Saban has also needed a lot of luck and a lot of media love.

I won't comment further, but I'm glad to see there are fans here with two eyes and a brain.

And I get ripped when I make this point often. People call Miles "lucky", while Saban is clearly the luckiest of them all.....with a HUGE slice of free publicity from the network that controls the sport.

That would be great if we had 7 SEC titles in a row.

Probably not. LSU has one of the top 3 or 4 programs in college football over the last 4-5 years. The unfortunate part is that the #1 program is in our division.
Yeah, I feel your pain...ask most Gator fans how dominate we were in the 90s (ranked 3rd with most wins) but all we remember are the losses to those damned Noles

Good teams outside of the state of Alabama tend to make their own luck. Good teams inside the state of Alabam make their own luck by getting extremely favorable schedules (Alabama) or paying players and refs (Auburn).

If not for a fluky WVU loss to a crappy Pitt team in 2007 all of the Posi-tards crowing about Miles NC with a two loss team (to fricking Arkansas and Kentucky) would have a lot less to crow about.

That OSU squad losing to Iowa State is a fluke. Losing to Alabama is not a fluke. Losing to Alabama while playing offensive football at a level not played at by this team in years, combined with 59 minutes of expected great defense plus 1 minute of inexcusably bad defense at home is a fluke. Alabama is going for a dynasty on the other end of the very same flukes. My point is...would the anger by the Anti Hat trolls be the same if LSU wasn't this close to all time greatness AND Saban's Alabama squad wasn't the beneficiary of the same things.

Actually, this is why I can't wait for an 8 team playoff. It'll be LSU/Bama NCG rematches year after year after year.
