Are these just unpleasant to shoot? I found an incredible deal on one, but I'm worried I'm just going to dread shooting it. Thanks for the feedback.

The only complaints I ever hear about them is the fact you have to shoot wby ammo and it's a little pricey.

Not gonna be exactly pleasant to target practice unless you have a Lead Sled but its not too bad.

I've shot one since 1999. I use the older Mark V Accumark Ultralite with a brake. Shoots very well and recoil feels about the same as a 30-06. Keep in mind the gun barely weighs 7 lbs including the scope. A heavier gun would recoil less in all likelihood. I've killed a lot of stuff from moose, bear and pigs plus whitetail with the 180 gr Barnes X rounds Weatherby offers. Simply devastating on whatever it makes contact with.

This is why I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger. While it may be complete overkill for whitetail, its a versatile round. Thanks for the input. I'll be sure to post some pictures once I pick it up.

My buddy has one and it kills em DRT. IIRC....Remington makes a CoreLokt bullet for it.I know the WBY ammo is high.Thats the only negative about them.

That's a pretty old school 22. Nice pieces!

Its an old Wby Mark XXII I believe. My grandfather bought it for my dad and then he handed it down to me after graduating from my Benjamin pump. Still accurate as all hell!

A lot of folks are turned off by the look of the Weatherby rifles. I personally love the raised comb and Monte Carlo style stocks. The old gun writers called them "California" style guns and there were a few makers of them at one time. If you want to see the extreme end of California style gun designs you should Google "Winslow Rifles" some time...

I would definitely say those are a bit more "extreme." I love their styling, but maybe I'm partial since that .22 was my first real rifle.

Its a 12 and its probably not too far from being over the hill either. I have an 870 as well that my dad bought years ago at a police auction. A new powder coating, refinished stocks, and a pistol grip later its a pretty BA home defense weapon.

Got a nice doe yesterday evening with the wby. Clean entry, clean exit right behind the shoulder. She ran off about 30yds before coming to her final resting place. The exit was about 2 1/2 in. in diameter and there some significant bruising around the front of the rib cage. The round did not make turn her insides into "soup" as some have said. Bottom line: While it may be overkill, the .300 wby mag makes for an extremely efficient kill without doing catastrophic damage and ruining the spoils of the kill. Thanks for all the input! I'm extremely happy with my purchase.
