Charlize Theron in Monster. I had a hard time seeing her as this incredibly beautiful actress for a long time after watching that movie.

Not really. Two things that bother me though, is when they use their fame as a platform to espouse their political views. Shut up and entertain me. The other is more show specific, like when a character does a 180 or goes off in a direction, and it causes me to go from liking the show, to hating it.

Maybe not ruin an actor, but I always think back to Amon Goeth whenever I see Ralph Fiennes. He's so damn sadistic and evil in Schindler's List. It doesn't help that he limits his roles.

Couldn't stand Joaquin Phoenix after his portrayal of Commodus in Gladiator

I find that it happens with t.v. actors much more frequently, and thoroughly. Jason Alexander will always be George Costanza!... poor sap. He was a victim of his own skill in portraying a self absorbed loser.

That is all I see now when I see him in a movie.

Ned Beatty ruined himself with one role. Personally, I can divorce one movie character from another, but I really don't think he realized that he would forever be remembered as the "squeal like a pig guy" from Deliverance.

And although I can usually ignore an actor's idiotic political agenda offscreen, it often creeps into their onscreen life. David Strathairn really irritates the shite out of me through his smarmy, liberal pussy douchebag characters over the last several years. I used to like him.

Tv is tough due to volume - instead of 100 minutes, you see 100 hours of the character.

That is how they wanted you to feel, you were supposed to hate him. Mission accomplished by the director and actor.

Robin Williams, "What Dreams May Come". I got very annoyed with the CONSTANT indulgent close-ups of his sad, care filled blue eyes.
Also, Ellen Page in EVERYTHING since Trailer Park Boys.
