I know the article you linked is from today but I'm pretty sure this happened a few weeks ago. I also remember hearing they hired someone away from google to fix this mess.

The article says google is going to release a google based map app for the iPhone. Any clue on whether the maps will be just like those found on android phones? Also will it be free?
I really hate these maps. My htc evo never messed up the directions like this phone has.

Nevermind looks like this is a different guy getting fired. I guess their entire maps team dropped the ball on this one.
I haven't had any problems with it but I've only used it once or twice in nola since all these updates.

I keep hearing people piss and moan about the new map on the iP5, but I really like it so far and have had no problems with it whatsoever.
And I'm certainly no Apple sunshine pumper.

The new maps has a database the size of a thimble. No street view, and the directions it gives you are often very wrong. Try to search "restaurant" somewhere like Houston and you get a fraction of the results you used too. The "3D" option is stupid IMO.

What makes this curious for me is because Cue has obviously taken on Maps fulltime now.
He "was" running the iTunes redesign which is a major, major deal. But here we are on the 27th of November, and it was supposed to be out by the end of October, and its still not out yet.
Then we see he's making managerial moves & making big decisions in Maps, while his previous baby still isn't delivered yet.
Just makes me wonder when we'll finally see iTunes redesigned.

But you also live in Baker or Baton Rouge and are probably going somewhere you've already been on most of your travels
If you were in a place like Houston, you would probably be more inclined to run into a problem with it

I had an iphone 4 and was waiting for the 5 to upgrade. It came out and I bought one for my wife. Long story short, after downloading ios6 on my 4 and then seeing the 5 in action, I realized it was time to leave the apple family. Google maps and the YouTube app, etc - I can't live without.
Apple fricked it up because they literally pushed me away from their product.

I sold my GNeX (which replaced a Thunderbolt) because my maps on either phone would never "lock" on to me. I grew to hate google maps. I have not had any issue with the apple maps. I'm a realtor and use it a lot.
