I always wondered why he didn't go to school for meteorology, considering his short stint as an intern. They could have played to that angle a lot more than "Plays with Squirrels."

I think he became more likable as a retard. He became the lovable idiot rather than the aloof cool guy. But I think it was around the WW2 episode where the change happened.
