Making my 250 acres that I paid for with my own sweat and blood actually huntable without constant interference from my neighbors with 100 acres?

I honestly dont care what anyones does with their property as far as running dogs go...UNTIL the dogs cross onto my property and run deer off my property. Then we have issues. I actually like when the neighbors run hog dogs bc they scare a few deer our way, but those dogs better not cross that line

High fence your place and dog hunt all you want, but I only get a few days a year to hunt and hate it when my still hunt gets phucked up by dogs trespassing

I hate em as much as you do, but there are things you can do short of a full ban.

How about banning dog hunting on leases smaller than 1000 continuous acres?

Hell banning it on less than 200 continuous acres would eliminate a large portion of the problem causers.

We have done this several times before. Hilarious watching the thugs hunt all night for their dogs that are 40 miles away at the pound.

We know that our dogs leaving our property isn't a big deal, because the people who own the surrounding land do nothing but farm cane on it, and a deer hound on their property every now and then has zero bearing on their lives. Most of them hunt with us once or twice a year. We've been here since the 40's and have very good ties with our neighbors.

It sounds like you have everything in order and I hate it that the vast majority of dog hunters have ruined it for you.

There are places in the swamp that you just can't hunt. That's where the deer stay. You NEED dogs to root them out. I'm not a deer dog guy, but there is no doubt in my mind that there are places that hold a lot of deer that humans just can't get too. I've hunted w dog before and the they do thier job or they die.

re: It's time to ban dog deer hunting

Look I'm not a fan of banning anything involving hunting.

We have a ton of land, have been doing it forever, and have land that would make most people completely give up on deer hunting.

I'd like to think that people are smart enough to not run 14 walkers on a 200 acre high ground lease. The fact is they aren't. Ban them from running dogs, and they'll start doing something else that pisses you off.

Also, once you pass a ban on running dogs, what's next on the list? I promise you something else will be next.

This. You don't even really have a dog in this fight. I'll never understand why you want to mess up the peaceful nature of deer hunting but as long as your not messing up someone elses then go for it. It's people that screw up others hunting by running dogs that suck. Can you not go rabbit hunting when it's not deer season or something if you just love chasing dogs that much?

See now that sounds fun to me. I'd be out there trying to catch dogs every time they got near then once I had enough of them I'd drive a hundred miles or so away and drop them off at a pound they'll have a hard time getting to. Do that enough and they'll quit sending dogs around you.

Or just shoot the things when they come on your property but better be ready for a gunfight eventually.

Making them drive a couple hundred miles every time they send dogs across your property sounds much more fun.

So have all these angry people actually spoken to the people who are pissing them off, or do yall just instantly resort to blasting dogs or hauling them off?

re: It's time to ban dog deer hunting

When I was a younger man I got pretty steamed about some dog hunters poaching the property I was leasing. There was one local that time and again ran his dogs through the property. I warned him on a few occasions and told him eventually I'd kill one of his dogs. He was an indignant prick that gave me the whole I've been hunting here all my life story and he informed me that posted signs don't mean anything to him.

Low and behold I was hunting at least a mile into the property and here he comes with 5-8 hound dogs and a little beagle walking about 30 yards in front of him. I was fed up and drew up a 30-06 and busted that beagle's head like a pimple from 100 yards off.

Things got pretty heated and the law showed up. I felt really bad about it immediately after dropping the dog. I never saw the hunter again as he would probably kill me. Since then I simply ask if there are dog hunters anywhere near the lease and if the answer is yes I find a new lease.

Shouldn't the dog hunters speak to the other property owners? They know what they are doing when they run dogs near property lines. Stop makin excuses and look for ways to regulate the outlaws so they don't ruin it for you.

Perhaps they don't know their dogs are crossing property lines. Might be nice people who don't know any better. Let's not instantly assume people we've never met are mindless rednecks trying to ruin your nice property.

If you've never talked to the man running dogs and you're just blindly shooting them, shame on you. Perhaps lots of these issues could be solved peacefully and without banning anything.

Stop makin excuses

You clearly missed the part where I said I hate them too.

As far as I know, they are currently not outlaws.

re: It's time to ban dog deer hunting

Have to say I use to enjoy the weekend of running dogs in the national forest that we put in each year. Was a chance to go camping with family and have fun, but even in national forest we ran into dogs running onto neighboring land and was a problem so we quit doing it. Would like to still be able to do it every now and then for my kids but its about impossible to do it right anymore so will likely besomething my kids don't get to do. Feel like I understand both sides of this argument with us it was always more for the kids. But i also find it funny when people put a food plot in where they can see 400 yds down lanes and call it hunting

My neighbors behind me run dogs and it just so happens I own the last 1/2 mile stretch of creek (both sides) up to the road. Said creek drains a couple of thousand acres. As you can imagine they cross me and catch dogs on my road frontage all the time.

I hate people running dogs. They say they can't control the dogs, but they know everything uses that creek. Their holding rifles trying to "catch" dogs up on the damn highway.

Oh yeah, the timber lease behind me where they do this is also a 3000 acre lease...
