| SUV buying advice - down to 3 (Posted on 11/26/12 at 1:32 pm)
ok guys done my research minus driving them, here is what the wife and i have narrowed it down to buying in the next few months. need some advice on what you think of each and which you would go with 1. GMC Acadia- 2013- 2. Ford Explorer- 2013 3. Nissan Pathfinder- 2013 like i said we havent driven any of them but will by end of year. Nissan and GMC are both same on gas but Explorer gets 3 more MPG. The Acadia is our every fav just on the fact that it has a lot more interior space- 117 cu feet vs 80 for the other two. any help is appreciated

I'm partial to the Nissan Pathfinder. We initially looked at the 2013 on the Acura RDX - not having backseat air conditioner vents is too big of a negative for us to overcome.

The GMC is going to get a redesign any day now. That one is a hunk of shite - if you believe the coots over at "consumer reports." My sister has the Buick version and it has rattles and aging of a car twice the age.

Gary , that's the 13 which is the redesign from 12. It's a pretty big difference inside

Why are you buying a brand-new SUV and looking to MT for advice? Its one of the worst depreceating assets you can buy.

G funk. Good question. Our goal is to get a used one with about 10k miles. We are going to keep it a while so don't want too old of a body style

It wouldn't shock me that the new Acadia was the best. Those things are incredibly roomy and comfortable. The new Explorer is nice too. Consumer's Reports says that the previous Acadia and current Explorer have some maintenance issues, but tested very well. I doubt they have an opinion on the new Acadia or Pathfinder yet. I noticed that the GMC has a better powertrain warranty than the Ford. Both the American trucks are UAW built, which is a negative for me but may not be for you. I'd consider used cars to avoid the inital depreciation hit, but since you are considering 2013 models, you probably wouldn't go for it. BTW, those are crossovers, not SUVs. Expect these to drive and act much like large minivans.

This. If you haven't already considered it. I tried to get my wife to look at them, but refused. Few months later she tells me "Oh I like the new Cherokees". Women... I've owned several Nissans, and although not familiar with all the details of the new Pathfinder (I assume VQ35 engine?), Nissan has always had a bad rep for problems in first year redesigns, as do many companies. But I am a fan of the looks. I personally would go Acadia->explorer->pathfinder of those three.

I would never own an Acadia. I know multiple people that have bought new ones that have had nothing but problems from the day they got them.

my wife drives a chevy traverse, first 3 yrs were great but this thing starting to rattle to the point I no longer drive it. I hate door rattles. I would suggest pathfinder, many friends own acadias and they all are starting to get rid of them due to problems.
