What do the 'poor', owe society?

Plenty of talk about what the rich owe; what about the poor, are there any qualifiers to their demand for economic/social justice? No work requirements at all? No drug tests? No pledge not to become a criminal burden on those that pay their way?

I'm sick of this whole farse; serious debate has really become a joke.

"Ask not what your country can do for you..."

Be good citizens. Get a job and become part of the solution. Help this country get back up on her feet. Stop dragging her down.

That's the ideal, life...but what if civic irresponsiblity is no more than a joke to those who practice it?

They debate Law that FORCES 'the rich' to do thier "fair share"...so...there should be NO LAW that forces those at the bottom to fulfill any requirements for their subsidization?

Without this...the social contract dies, and all this talk is pretty much academic. As the nation slides on toward collapse.

Continue to accept being poor and exploited and to volunteer to be cannon fodder so the rich boys can get their deferments.

It's always been true - The sons of LSU and Ole Miss are sent to war to die by the sons of Harvard and Yale

In your view of the do you ever consider the billions of dollars in subsidies given annually to corporations? (This doesn't even count tax breaks and write offs)

Is the fact that we pay more in corporate welfare than social welfare programs figure into your opinion?

Do you ever ponder the difference between a businessman writing off his fancy dinner as a 'corporate expense' while complaining about those lazy poor people using food stamps?

We have to puit an end to such foolish myths!

How are the botton 20% of society to find jobs when over 12% of the functional population is unemployed?

How are the 20% with IQ's below 85 suppose to get an education that prepares them for the 21st century?

Stop believing in myths and rededicate the funds used to train, retrain, habilitate, rehabilitate form and reform the lumpen masses to a more efficient and practical use.

Exactly... Take a job that may only pay $8hr instead of living off of welfare or unemployment.

I hate the mentality "Oh, well I can make $300 a week off of unemployment or I can make $350 off of working, I'll just sit on my ass"

Well the longer you sit on your ass, the longer it takes you to dig out and move up.

Btw, I know unemployment isn't "Poor", but it is indicative of the thinking.

Really?

Prove me wrong.

I provided a link, lets have one.

And if nothing else, people should be aware of the 100 billion we spend on corporate welfare, which doesn't include write-offs, bail-outs, and tax breaks. That is just subsidies.

Get off your high horse and stop demonizing "corporations". They certainly have a tremendous benefit for our society.

The problem is with a growing mentality that people expect to have things just because they breathe. Stop incentivizing laziness and set up systems to reward good behavior.

re: What do the 'poor', owe society?
before i offer a link to counter that absurd assertion, what counts as "social spending" in your world? what do you think makes up the rest of our federal budget other than corp welfare- defense spending?

I would do haha in bold letters, but that would be immature.

Corporations are just fine, did I say corporations are bad?

Or did I say we should be aware of the 100 billion we give them in welfare every year, which doesn't include bail outs, write offs, and tax breaks.

And the worst part is the biggest chunks of this 100 billion a year goes to the largest corporations.

So we can end all individual welfare at the same time we end all corporate welfare? I'm fricking in if you say yes.

Pal, I'm just going off of the numerous links you could find with a simple google search.

Traditional social programs get between 50-60 billion a year, corporate welfare is at 100 billion a year. (And again that's without bail outs, write offs, and tax breaks).
