Neither are trashy imo.
I'd say that MMA seems more accessible and may attract trashier people, but the good fighters who put in the time and effort likely aren't trashy. The guys who actually have a lot of martial arts training and are skilled. Not the Kimbo Slice's of UFC.

Boxing used to be the baseball of this country (or now football).
It is 10 thousand times less trashy than MMA.
I will say boxing has tons of problems though. But talking about which one is trashier, that is definitely MMA.

If we're talking trashy sports, it begins and ends with MMA. That damn Ultimate Fighter show turned every hack that could buy a t-shirt and some fistwraps into a cage fighter or trainer.
I know this chick, won't call her a friend, her hubby has been training for at least 5 years. Never had a fight one, I don't think he's even sparred. Guy walks with horrible balance and is slow in all movements, and definitely does meth.
My Trashy Sports list goes something like this...
1. MMA
2. Rodeo
3. Polo
4. Bowling
5. Women's Soccer (mostly due to Hope Solo)
6. Street Skateboarding
7. Supercross
8. Drift
9. Dirt Track Racing
10.Quarter Horse Racing
Football and Basketball are in there somewhere but they're just too popular and transcend societal boundaries.
