Would finances improve for the Union after secession?

Granted these numbers are based on 2004-05, they hold to the trend today. It appears a red state secession would leave them in a rough situation. How has it become the talking point that democratic states are draining the federal money per person when this isn't the case?

Easy, if the red states form their own nation, they won't need federal dollars since they will just let the poor and old die in the streets. Problem solved.

How much money from the GOM goes to the Treasury? Does that factor into the income from the state?

Gosh no, that would make the chart invalid. I wonder if military expenditures are included in the comparison. That would skew as well.

This is a scratch the surface meme that pops up from time to time.

My guess is the people who don't pay taxes and receive services will move to "blue states" and their problem will still exist, only more concentrated.

If secession ever occurred, IMO it would have been precipitated by financial collapse of the current system, hence the finances on both sides of the fences would likely be in terrible shape after the split.

No. Because once the "Red State" governments pull the plug on welfare programs, the "recipients" would be flocking to the Union, becoming their problem.

If the Red States seceded, the democrats would go to the Blue states.

Crime and poverty would improve drastically in the South. Like New Orleans a year after Katrina.

There would be a tremendous demographic shift.

All the oil in the red states would strangle the blue states.

Industry in the Blue would move to the corporate-friendly Red.

The Blue would have to declare war just to stave off economic collapse. . .or political collapse with no jobs, and therefore no money to pay the entitlement programs.

Don't assume that open borders would continue to exist. Immigration would more than likely be limited to people with demonstrated means or desirable skill sets.

The dependent population would be frozen in situ. And guess who has the larger share of them.

Funny that this is a requirement that the Dems refuse to impose on actual foreigners today.

You know damn well it would, for "human rights" purposes.

Don't pretend it wouldn't.

From the party that wants amnesty for illegal immigrants. . .
