So a guy who has lost his starting job is the MVP of the league?

Gyno has a point. Smith has been sick, but he is still behind the big four. See my recent post:
quote:
Alex Smith season stats: 104.1 passer rating - fifth in NFL 70% completion - first in NFL 7.98 YPA - tied for third in NFL The biggest difference between Smith and the elite QB's is the frequency of passes they throw. Smith is just as efficient as them, but he only averages 24 attempts a game where as Peyton averages 37+ passes with the same efficiency. That is where Peyton is the (arguably) best QB in the league. The truly elite quarterbacks can throw it can 40 times with stifling efficiency where as Alex Smith and RG3 can do it, but they only make 20-25 attempts.

He's been solid but they still win mostly due to defense and the running game. I think they'll keep winning with Kaepernick. Now substitute Brees for someone else and let's see how they do. Brees doesn't have much of a running and quite possibly the worst defense in the league and yet they're the hottest team in the league. 2 horse race between manning and Brees IMO

If Brees gets the Saints into the playoffs, which would involve him playing like he has been lately he should win MVP. With that said, Peyton Manning is leading the race. He has been outstanding this year, and this is on a new team. Rodgers and Brady, have both been up to their normal level of play as well. One of these 4 will win it, but if Brees overcomes not having his coach and an 0-4 start, that trumps everything else.

That would be funny except it's true. First round pick who put up solid seasons with tebow at QB. Also this is only his third year which generally is where you see a WR breakout. He is averaging a ridiculous 16 yards per reception. He is 6th in receiving yards, 8th in yards per catch and is doing this despite being 13th in receptions
Solid seasons? He had like 800 career yards before this season. Thomas is an excellent WR after the catch his problem is he like most non elite WRs doesn't get open down field and against great defenses thats what matters.

If Peyton had Vernon Davis and Frank Gore it wouldn't even be fair the #s he would put up.

I was being facetious and proving a point that a nice passer rating, completion % etc has to be taken into context. Take Manning off the Broncos and where are they? They went to the playoffs on Tim frickin Tebow's back last season. That's a good team. Take Brady off NE and where are they? They have a top 5 run game and a reenergized D. (Matt Cassel also led a NE team to a 11-5 record once upon a time ) Rodgers off of GB? Brees off of NO? Alex Smith off of SF?

No doubt. QBs are always the first names mentioned. A guy like AJ Green, Megatron, Peterson make their teams go.

I still think RGIII needs consideration what he is doing is pretty awesome.... 104.6 QB rating 67.5% completion percentage 2504 Yards 16 touchdowns 4 interceptions 642 rushing yards 6.5 YPC 6 touchdowns Although he does have 9 fumbles on year as well

Saints got brutal schedule coming up. MVP is going to be Peyton or Brady. Peyton is in the lead with plenty of cake teams to pad his stats.

MVP is manning. Brees is playing great but he'll have to keep it up to win it over the next three

Manning's to lose at this point. If Brees brings the Saints to the playoffs though there is no reason he shouldn't be one of the final two. People all have different definitions of "MVP." Without Peyton, the Broncos were still a playoff team. Without Brees, the Saints might not have a single win.

If Brees takes team to playoffs, he SHOULD win MVP. The stats will be there without question. However, the media loves a combination of stats and regular season success. Don't know if they would give the MVP to a wildcard team over a division winner, but Brees would have done what no other QB has done before. It would be a crime if he doesn't get it. But after witnessing Rodgers win it last year over Brees, it makes me think the final standings are more important. At this point, the Texans would likely get a first round bye. However, if Indy runs the table, or even loses just one more, they could still win their division because they get to play the Texans TWICE. That would likely give them a bye, but not necessarily first seed. New England also still gets a shot at the Texans. They can lose one more as well but they have the head-to-head tie breaker over Indy, so New England would get the higher seed. It will all depend on the final standings. Whoever finishes with the higher seed in the AFC will win it IMO. Unless of course Brees pulls of a miracle. Gonna be fun to watch.
