Apologies if this topic has been discussed a bunch, but I'm thinking of taking my dad fishing in Venice sometime in 2013. We routinely fish for reds etc out of various spots in South Texas but we really don't know LA that well. I've looked at the Venice Fishing Lodge and it looks great but don't really know:
1. When to go for reds etc.
2. Where to go, if not the Venice Fishing Lodge.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I consider October and November the best time of the year down there typically. You can catch all the reds you want and most years by mid October you can find a great trout bite pretty easily. However NORMALLY the trout are eating trout or a little larger, First full moon in May is when to target the big trout.
That being said I had a trip last fall with four 6-7 lb trout in the same day in November. So you can find big trout most of the time down there.

They are killing the fish right now down river. I am heading that way hopefully this week.
