Good stuff.

It will look better if you use the following settings:

Palette: Perceptual 256 Colors

Dither: Diffusion 80%


That will fix the blocking color effect

My bad...I was thinking Photoshop.

In GIMP when you convert to index colors (Indexed Color Conversion popup window) there are setting for both Colormap and Dithering.

The default for Dithering is none. Change that dropdown to Floyd-Steinberg (normal)
