The quote I read was mid 80s. "AIDS will evolve into an air borne disease. Just like the Flu. You will catch it just by someone sneezing on you."
This was an attempt by the AIDS advocates to scare the public during the Reagan Adm into increasing private funding for AIDS. They were mad that private funding was so much higher for Heart Disease and Cancer.
So, they just put out a lot of lies all during the 80s.

I don't think it was lies per se, they just talked out their ass.
And for a time in the 80s, it really did whallop the straight community. Nothing like it did to the gays but it was an epidemic in many cities, due one dude shooting up and getting it and then fricking a bunch of woman.
I think most of that curtailed with needle exchange programs.

Well, not on a wholesale basis, maybe, but I can tell you that downtown New Orleans is becoming more and more residential. New apartments and condos are opening constantly. Primarily for young professionals and "empty nesters".
